Bed removal?

What all is involved in taking the bed off of a M37? Ive been working on cleaning mine up, sandblasting...etc and removing the bed would make things alot easier. Anyone know the size and location of the bolts, how many...etc. i appreciate all the help so far on my venture

The Manual that drawing is in is TM 9-8031-2 and you can buy that manual on an Ebay store for $20. There's 549 pages of really good info in it.

It's also on the cd from Military media along with many other m-37 manuals for about $20.

Soak the screws, bolts, and nuts with PB blaster and let them sit for a few minutes. If the bed screws won't budge than just drill the heads off. The bolts on the fenders and the carriage bolts will be more of a challenge unless you have a way to heat up the nuts. I just went through this process and I didn't bother trying to save the bed screws I just drilled the heads off and the fender bolts loosened but than snapped off. The carriage bolts I cut off. I didn't have a way to heat up the nuts but I think I will be investing in a torch soon.

thanks for the tip m-11...im prepared for the worst. i know ill replace all the hardware anyways so im not going to fight getting the bolts out. off with their head...

Then gice 'em a twist with a wrench or vise-grips. I used kroil and drill bit generated plenty of heat.
Some times the nut actually came off?

I got mine off in a day (actually 3hours) I used a motor lift and just lifted it up and pulled it off. Im currently replacing the bed on my truck (its not going to be stock) im using 16ga flat steel for the bed .

If you are going to take the bed apart the easiest way to remove the 5/16 bed screws is to just tighten them up until they break into, this will save blood and flesh and many cuss words ! JUST EXPERIENCE SPEAKING.
