stock seats or new

Has anyone here ever changed there stock seats to newer seats? I was thinking about gently (meaning im not going to chop it up ill make it so It can be put back in if I go back to stock) cutting the box under the seats out and installing air rides. I am trying to stay with the “stock” look on the outside but I use my m37 as a dd so I want it to be a bit more comfortable. I hate to see a m37 cut up as much as the next guy and believe it or not this would be the first “cutting” I have don on this truck.
ok im wanting your opinions not a lecture on what I should use as a dd.

Stick with the stock seats. They work fine.

Being a DD then its not a trailer queen, is your truck competition worthy? Or do you show it at car shows? If not, then I say, set it up the way you like.
When I first got my truck running, so I wouldn't wreck the seats with dirt and grease I found a John Deer tractor seat fit quite well in place of the drivers seat, I might just go back to that seat ( I didn't feel like I was going to slide off).
The problem with removing the seat boxes is you loose all that storage space.

Don't let the guys force you to "Not have it your way"!

I plan on using mine for a daily driver and I have been giving considerable thought to seats. You can keep the boxes and opt for some short low mount seats like you find in the 80's Toyota pickups.

I have put rear bucket seats from a 2000 Ford minivan in mine. M37B1. Plenty of good seats availabe in junkyards now due to "cash for clunkers".
You should take out the seat risers by drilling the spotwelds. They can then be re-installed later.
What about the batteries? you will want to set the seats lower than they may allow. My truck was a basket case that was already used as a parts truck so I didn't butcher a resto candidate. I had to rebuild the battery box from scratch so I made things work.

Maybe just use a air ride for the drivers seat. Alot of commercial rigs are set-up that way, so it wouldn't look too out of place.
Then you will still have storage and a battery box...as well as being comfy.

Does the top ever come off? Are you worried about the weather?

My plan is to use the competition style plastic bucket seats. They are cheap to purchase new, and can be had with a removeable foam padded cover. They also come in two different widths for us lads that need some extra room. They also accept conventional seat belts and 5 point harness' as well as they have a universal mounting bracket installed.
