Wiring harness install with turn signal upgrade

Post by Captnsim »

Welcome to my wiring harness install thread! :D
Just got my new harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine and I gotta say it looks great.
Opened the box to see a nice bag of packing peanuts...easy clean up for unpacking!

Image

Next we find a install manual with a very sharp looking M37 on the cover if I may say so... :D (that's my truck)

Image

After that is a box with the control assembly for the directionals.

Image

Followed by a series of bags containing...

The distributor wire.

Image

The instrument cluster spider harness, headlight harness, and a blackout drive light harness.

Image

A signal switch harness set up for the solid state flasher, and a voltage regulator harness.

Image

The rear harness with directionals.

Image

The last item is the front harness with directionals. This bag also contains the flasher unit.

Image

Well thats all for now until I start the install.

He puts out a very nice kit. With very good instructions. With excellent customization service. And outstanding followup assistance. It's easy to see why he has no competition to speak of for the military harnesses.

That is a nice looking wiring kit. What was the lead time for that?
Are the grommets included for the wires to pass thru the front fenders and the lamp housings?

Lead time was quoted at three weeks but the kit arrived in two.
No grommets, or butt style connectors included. (reuse the old ones)
I'll also need to get a battery cable set, and a generator to regulator cable to finish the parts list for the install.
A second tail lamp was in the parts that came with the truck. This is needed for the directionals conversion.
I'm sure there will be a few odds and ends I'll need to get as the install progresses, but I'm hoping they will be minor and easy to acquire.

Did Joe offer the generator to regulator cable and battery cables as an add on?

I've ordered a couple of wiring harness* from Joe. When the time comes, I'll order the harness for my M37 from him to. He makes a quality product and has excellent after the sales support.

* It's kind of "funny" to me that some people (MVers & non MVers alike) will inquire about how much one of Joe's harness cost and then scoff at the price with a comment like "I'd just buy some wire and run one myself". Yet, these are the same folks who want $12K for a truck worth $2K.

Unfortunately he does not manufacture the larger Gen/reg cable, or the battery cable kit.
I see Midwest has the battery cable kit so I'll more then likely order these from them when the time comes.
Looking like Ebay for a NOS Gen/reg cable.

Matt:
How right you are.
I'd like to see someone try and do the quality of work, source out the new hardware, correct wire, and wrap style as Joe...for the price he offers.
I was Lucky and got a tour of his shop when I looked at my truck. Quite a set-up.
He even showed me how the weaver for the woven covers works. Now thats a neat rig.
