Post by refit1701 »

Did all M37's have troop seats in the back?

I assume that all the cargo trucks left the factory with troop seats, it would be up to the units to decide if they wanted them left in or not. Tom

Actually, I think that the troop seats, cargo cover/bow assembly, etc. had separate NSNs, allowing vehicles to be ordered "with or without" them. I know that the canvas and supports for the M151 were available separately when I was still on active duty, because I had to order some for my unit. That being the case, I'm assuming that it held true for other vehicles as well (but you know what they say about "assuming"). ;)

I'll look and see if there are holes for the supports.

If you look at the specifications for the B1 model (located on this website in PDF form), you'll notice the troop seats listed in the general description...

I've never seen a bed that didn't have the attachement points (channels and mounting holes) for the troop seats.

I have heard from folks that they removed troop seats while in the service in order to mount other equipment. FWIW: I also know of a couple units that removed tailgates in order to make ingress/egress easier and to use the metal to help support sandbag roofs... :)

VFD's are also notorious for rearanging the beds of trucks in order to mount tanks/pumps and other firefighting gear.
