What should temp guage read in Florida??

Post by Tim7750 »

My M43 has been sneaking up to 220 degrees when running on long trips (20 miles+). The temp here in Florida in the middle of the day has been reaching 96 degrees. I have not overheated, but I was wondering if any of you guys think this is a concern. I have just replaced the water pump and flushed motor and radiator several times and I am not running a thermostat.

Couple of thoughts

First I agree out the thermostat back in. No thermostat speeds the flow of water...but water going through the radiator too fast doesn't dump its heat as well....

Are you sure your temp gage is accurate??? Try running with out the cap on until she gets warm (not really hot) then use your wife's meat thermometer in the radiator and compare to your gage reading. Then return the thermometer before she finds out!!!

I've heard accounts of the water distribution tube in the block clogging up and causing overheating. Who knows?

The cooling tube is an accident waiting to happen, especially when the trucks were run on straight water, we were amazed at the amount of rust that came out of ours. We had pulled our engine so it was easy to work on.

I hope you fellows don't mind me putting my 2 cents in but you might be interested to see what I found when I replaced the water pump and pulled the water distribution tube. I found the last two openings clogged.
