Zerk Fittings

Post by SierraM37 »

Is it one size fit's all for the zerks that lube the spring hangers and the closed knuckles? What size are they? Am I missing any? If replacing all of them, how many do I need (too lazy to go thru the manuals to count!)

If I stick my foot in it, someone will correct me, but I'm pretty sure that Zerk fittings are "one size fits all." I've replaced many of them on a number of cars over the years, and they all came out of the same boxed assortment. The "assortment" consisted of straight and angled Zerks...I think 75 straight and 25 angled per box of 100. You can buy either type in little plastic bags of 5 or 10, also.

Zirks come in different thread sizes...the questions here are all the ones on the M37 the same size and I believe the answer is yes.

I was missing one, ran up to ACE figuring a Zerk was a Zerk.... the guy opened the bin...sure enough, three thread sizes, hmmmm. I haven't pulled off a mate yet to run back up there.

There are 2 different sizes, the front springs take the smaller ones. I just changed out mine last weekend. Don't forget the ones on the brake/clutch assembly under the drivers side floor, there are three all 45's and a pain to get to. I bought a assortment kit from the parts store instead of counting.
