Oil Gage more trouble

Does anyone know how to test the sending unit on the M37? The truck came with a 120lb Gauge and I was told this was the wrong one that I should have 60lb. I replaced the gauge with a 60 lb one and it still did not work. I tried to measure the resistance on the sending unit wire and it measured no resistance to ground with the engine running or turned off. This can not be right can it?? If I need a new sending unit does anyone have one out there, or know where I can get one? Am I testing the sending unit corectly? I am about ready to get a modern gage and just plumb it up. I would rather solve the problem and keep it origional if I can.

Hi Tim: Your sending unit should have a variable resistance to ground as the engine oil pressure changes. Zero resistance may mean the sender has opened up and is not functioning. Also, around the top of the sender it should indicate what it's pressure rating is 0-60 or 0-120psi. The sender and gage have to match. The 120 psi gage was standard, but it is much better to use the 60 psi gage since you get a lot more indication of the oil pressure than you do with a 120 psi gage. Several people should have a 60 psi sender. If you cannot find one, I may have one stashed some place. Sid

Thanks Sid, I think they have the sending units at Vintage, they are in the book at least. I will let you know how I come out. There is a lot of confusion about these gages, 120 VS 60. I keep getting different stories. Talbit said he the 60 was for the Gas engine and the 120 for the Diesel. Anyone out there know the rest of the story? Thanks again Sid

Hey tstephenson,
Vintage Powerwagons is ok if you can't find something from the (other guys),but you will get a much better deal from dealers like Sid,Garbee,Snakeriver 4x4 just to name a few.I have got good deals from Vintage but mostly they are ovepriced,and we need to help support the others like Sid.

Yea, I know how it is, everybody is a newbie at one time or another I think it would be a good idea for someone to post a reference area with everyones website or PH# so people can look it up here.
I may post something later with the info I have and other people can add to it, or maybe Robi or Monkey Man could help us out here and give us a parts dealer area here on site.
I think it would help the parts dealers and make it easy for the owners to find the parts we need.Face it, if you own a M you gotta know this site!
How about it Monkey Man does this sound like a good idea??

well i was in a junkyard with alot of old gmc 2 1/2 tons with the gas engine and that is where i got the 60 pci gauge with correct metal connectors on the back

I dont believe there was any formula to the 60 and 120 oil gauges, just what each vehicle manufacturer chose to use. And if thats the Sid I know he is the mvcc's(mvpa now) orignal m-37 expert an has been in business for a long time.
