60 A Alternator

My M152 was upgraded with a Leece-Neville 60 Amp alternator at some point in it's history. Perhaps because at one time it was a radio vehicle and had a higher electrical load. I know these alternators have been used on other military vehicles, but they are not mentioned in any of the G-741 manuals or literature I've seen. Was it common practice for the military to upgrade to this alternator at some point in the M37 cycle of duty or is this just an oddball?

I guess it depends on when your truck left service. I know that at some point all M35s were updated with a kit that allowed them to convert from the generator- voltage regulator to the 60 amp altinator. You see the wire kits from time to time on epay etc. If your truck was hanging around long enough for what ever reason then it might have gotten upgraded at that time. If not then I'd say it was done after it got into civilian hands.

TM 9-2320-212-20P, Organizational Maintenance, Repair Parts and Special Tools List shows a 100 A kit but no 60, that kit might have earlier and replaced by this March 28 1972 edition's 100 A kit.

the "kit" I was talking about was for an MWO to replace the generator and voltage regulator with the 60 amp altinator. As I recall it was to be done to all vehilces in service with 25 amp gens. But I think it was a early 80s thing so his truck would still have had to been in service by then.

Yes its unlikely any 37's were still in service long enough to fall under that MWO, however its easy enough to install one if you wanted. All you need is the alt and the wiring kit which are on ebay or avial through most MV vendors now. The 100 amp kit was for trucks equipped w several radios or other high load equipment, and was different in appearance and parts from both the 25A gen and the 60A alt.
