Loose steering column

Post by Wayne64 »

My steering box feels tight enough, but I seem to have play in two places. The outer column moves in the upper dash bracket, which I guess I could shim? The inner shaft is also moving in relation to the outer column. Is there a bearing or some renewable part for this? Thanks much

There should be a rubber bushing at the upper column dash bracket, if it isn't there, it will be as you described. There is a bearing & seal at the top of the column. The inner race is a split collar on the steering shaft that is pressed into position when the steering wheel nut is tightened. Be sure all is tight & in position as this may well be youir problem.
