Chrysler takes a sabbatical; GM "bankrupt"
Raw Story

"Ailing US automaker Chrysler said Wednesday it was halting its
manufacturing for at least a month from Friday in response to a credit
crisis and ongoing debate on a government rescue for the sector. 'As a
result of the financial crisis, the automotive market remains
depressed due to the continued lack of consumer credit for potential
buyers,' the Detroit firm said in a statement. 'Last week several
automakers announced significant downward adjustments in production
for the first quarter of 2009, and to make sure our inventory remains
aligned with market demand, Chrysler will also extend the holiday
shutdown already in place.' Chrysler said the shutdown of its plants
is part of an effort 'to keep production and dealer inventory aligned
with US market demand.'" ( 12/17/08 )

Pretty much across the board back here--extended downtime for the month of Jan and some plants into the 2nd week of Feb. Bush threw the lifeline today but we will wait and see if the rescue works!
