Stalled out?

The truck sat for a week here inside the garage and we got hit with the winter grip. We had over half a tank of fuel, and Zach added another 5 gallons. The truck started right up with no problems. We let it idle and come up to temp, then Zach went around the block. It stalled out while running in 3rd gear and would not start. Luckily we only had to tow it down the block. It cranked but had signs of no spark. We cranked it again and it fired once then nothing. We have renu'd tank, new fuel lines, carb, pump, and fresh fuel.

I don't think there is a chance that water accumulated? Any ideas? We figured we'd go buy some starting fluid and let it set for a while.

Did you go through all systems during the course of doing engine work? Were all accessories rebuilt at that time? Look out, what you leave untouched comes back to bite!!

1. Carb - rebuilt by Jim Wallace
2. Pump - rebuilt by Then & Now
3. Lines - MWM
4. Tank - RENU'd
5. New Fuel Pick Up in tank
6. InLine filter at fuel tank (was thinking of installing one at pump?)
7. Dist - electronic conversion from MSeries, new wiring, removed RF.

After about an hour, we shot some starter juice and she fired right away and ran with a little choke but then idled ok. Are these the accessories you mean to check?

That check list is good provided no new issue has come up with anything. Using starting fluid isn't a good idea, washes oil from upper cylinder areas. Based on what you are saying, having to use choke to keep it running after normal temp is reached usually indicates a carb problem or a slight vacuum leak. Like I said, this is suspect because you mentioned a little choke was necessary. One other issue that sticks out is the coil, a coil going bad will malfunction after the engine warms up. Typically the engine will restart after it cools down only to stall again repeatedly after warm up. I'm assuming you have distributor vent lines in place with the correct fittings to create air circulation. Did you install new plug cables? Are all components in the distributor new, cap of high quality, (the brown one & not the cheap imported black one), the rotor? Just throwing out some possibilities, however having to have choke points directly to a fuel issue, could be something broken loose clogging a line. All I can say is run down the list.

No spark sounds like the coil failed or something in the electr ig module. Do all of the plugs fail to spark?
