I just finished one of my pinion seal adapters! PICTURES>

These are sweet. No more leaks for me!

Fun project too. Plus... I can now use a modern seal. It started out as a piece of 1018 cold rolled bar stock like this

I then cheated a bit and hogged out the center with a hole saw like this..

After this procedure,I cut the center hole to proper size (including the interferance fit for the seal)

I then checked for fit

I then created a relief cut for the shoulder of the seal

I then machined the outside diameter to mimick the original seal (including the interference fit)

After this process was done,I flipped the adapter over in the chuck and removed the extra material it didn't need

and some more to bring it to the proper thickness...

Here is the end result without the seal completely installed

After a few thoughts,I added two 1/4-20 threaded blind holes in case I ever have to actually remove the adapter with a puller

I still have to do a better counter sink on the holes. What do you all think? I cant wait to make some spotlight mounts!

I still don't know how to post pictures right. They were supposed to go up and down,not sideways.

How do I fix this?

Nice adapter! I like the threaded holes for removal.

As for posting, just put some line breaks (hit the enter key) between pictures. you should be able to edit the post and do this.

I was thinking... I could also machine a groove(s) on the outside for an "O" ring or two. Just a thought.

Since your adapter is solid, rather than the stamped formed metal version sold by Vintage, the outer diameter O-Ring might be a good idea. The stamped/formed stile can deform like a seal to fit the varying housing diameter but yours can't.

Doesn't matter if they're solid. They're fitted to my truck. What does vintage charge for they're adapters. where are they on the website?
I didn't see them.

Yes a modern seal, but I've already installed it and if I can rear a number I'll post it when I can.
