Attaching front bumper brackets

Post by JimC »

Lock washers - front bumper

I'm having a senior moment.
What lock washers are used with the 1/2-20 bolts that attach the front bumper brackets for the winch bumpers?

Regular?
External Star?
Internal Star?
Square?

Originally they were the crush, almost square washers, but since they will be out of sight, I'd (I did) use normal s/s lock washers. But in case your doing a intense resto, Tom at, http://www.snakeriver4X4.com should have eggsactlly what your looking for?

Thanks, Bruce.
.
Normally I wouldn't care, but this is for my XM708 so I'm being more careful than usual.
Going to have to hand build a tailgate, and I'm really dreading that.

Hand-building a tailgate? Did you check with Ed Anderson aka XM708 here on the forum? He might have a spare or know who might, if he doesn't.... You might send him a PM....

Thanks Gary,
I know Ed. He's been helping me out by taking measurements on his tailgate for me. With only 12 of these trucks still existing of the 192 made, extra tailgates are hard to come by. The original tailgates were hand made at the factory, mostly of 10 and 12 ga. steel sheet. Duplicating the factory tailgate is tedious, but not difficult.

Wow! We'd sure like to see some pictures when you fab this up-I'm impressed that you'd tackle something that complex! I don't know that I could do it....

There's nothing complex about it.
It's just a steel bar and a piece of 10 ga sheet steel with some 12 ga bracing welded to it.
Most difficult part is the brackets for attaching the rear reflectors.

PDF of Tailgate attached. There is still a 5/8" discrepancy in the width. Probably in the reflector bracket width.
