Dual Master Cylinder

If you install a dual master cylinder on your M37 and retain the drum brakes, and if the master cylinder is made for a disc brake application you will need to install a residual valve in each of the lines to prevent loss of pedal when you let the truck sit for awhile. The valves are available from S...

Re: making sure the oil pump is doing it's job on startup

Either way will work, packing with petroleum jelly will cause it to suck oil, or priming by submerging the pump works also. I've done it both ways. You should be able to get oil pressure by cranking the engine without starting it if everything is primed.

Re: Ignition Problems...

Use a test light and see if you have battery voltage on the positive side of the coil, with the key on. If you do, then put the test light on the negative side of the coil and crank the engine to see if the test light flashes as you crank it. If it does the points are working. Then pull the coil wir...

Re: Low compression

From the looks of no.3 cylinder I would say its definitely going past the rings. Whenever there's that much ash on the piston and clean around the outer portion of the piston your rings are either worn or stuck, most likely in your case, stuck.

Re: Hood Latch Question

You're right Sal, I went into my manuals CD and found the same production number when it was changed. My truck's production number is 80013400 so it wouldn't have the latch. Thanks for the quick reply though. Joe

Re: Hood Latch Question

My 1951 M37 doesn't have the latch mentioned in the middle, and I can't see that there ever was one. Is that something added later, maybe with the B1's?

Re: Compression Results

It doesn't have to be a miracle additive to do this, just some STP gas treatment or Marvel mystery in the gas should free it up if sticking is the problem.

Re: Compression Results

Compression readings should be within 10% of the highest reading, so no. 3 is a little weak but with a 100psi reading you probably won't notice much of a miss. Try some gas treatment for a couple tankfuls, could be the valve sticking a little. Also when checking compression the highest reading shoul...

Re: Fed up with waterproof 24 volt system

I switched my M37 over to a civilian distributor, I did have to change the oil pump also. I also installed a 12V GM alternator, changed the gauges to mechanical gauges, put 12V bulbs in the military blackout lights, switched the head lights to 12V also. For the starter I ordered a 6V new starter fro...

Re: Strange Spare Tire Mount

It looks like they bolted it to a side pocket of the bed with a bracket. Hopefully they beefed it up to carry the load. Just doesn't look right though,

Re: Exhaust Valve - Cleaning

My father in law was a master mechanic way before there was ASE testing and was my mentor. I started working with him in his shop in 1976 learning engine work and general mechanics. We did the water down the carb trick alot to clean off the carbon from both the intake and exhaust and intake valves w...
