I believe they originally had strips of felt glued to the panels. I didn't put any thing on mine though because I thought the felt was contributing to rust

Re: Fuel Pick Up ?
Bruce, The early models with the firewall mounted filter had a pickup tube that was shaped like an upside down question mark with the inlet paralell to the bottom of the tank. I'm guessing this was so that if you smashed in the bottom of the tank the pick up would deform and not pierce the bottom of...

Re: Fuel Pick Up ?
Bruce, It sounds like you are describing the in-tank fuel filter. The pick up tube is probably rusted or cracked inside, allowing it to suck air below 1/4 tank. I would get rid of the intank filter, and add an inline filter if you don't already have one. The pick up tube can be replaced with 5/16&qu...

Re: tent seat covers?
I made my own. I used cordura nylon I got off eBay. It's at least as heavy as the original canvas, and I sewed mine with an old singer home sewing machine.

Re: Any experiance using RockAuto Brake slave & master Cylin
I got mine from AB linn off of eBay. They are the new star brand. Got my shoes and hoses from him as well. Look for parts displayed on the old wooden chair. I've also bought a lot of parts from rock auto, and had good luck with them. The only exception to this is I have gotten bad oxygen sensors fro...

Re: How Many Gas Cap Variations ??
Bob To my knowledge, the vented cap is the correct one for our trucks. The last two you show are the same cap, only the ears have been broken off of the last one. The pattern for those caps is not unique to the M37. They may have been used on other trucks or equipment, even civilian. I have an antiq...

Re: Paper Axle Gaskets
Bob Those thin gaskets are the appropriate material for that application. The thickness of the gasket material should be inversely proportional to the quality and operating conditions of the mating surfaces. For instance, oil pan gaskets are typically quite thick and flexible, because the pan can't ...

I thought I should show you guys what I was working on over the winter. http://g741.org/photogallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=11587&g2_serialNumber=2 I used Some 1000 denier Cordura nylon in the ACU pattern I got off of Ebay. I made my templates out of cardboard, and stit...

MM. Have you tried to remove the diff yet. If you could get the diff out, you might be able to drive the busted piece in to the housing. Just a thought.

Re: Headlamps?
I think a lot of the people on the road these days are not really engaged in the act of driving. Their headlights come on automatically when its dark, so they don't ever think about it. Even if they decided it was a good idea to turn them on, they may not even know how. My pet peeve is the use of ha...

Re: looking to buy a 1960 M37
When I bought mine, I had myself convinced that I had found the only remaining m37 left in existence.
All in all I don't think I did too bad. I probably should have paid a couple hundred less. Oh well, live and learn.
Jag, I sent you a PM with my phone number. Feel free to give me a call.
