Re: what did I do wrong-distributor/ ignition problem
What RMS is trying to tell you is that # 1 and # 6 reach TDC at the same time, so you can pull the plug in the head over # 6, use your dowel or any screwdriver or rod to reach TDC in that plug hole. No matter # 6 or # 1, using your dowel thru the spark plug hole interferes with the valve. Use the th...

Re: Do the doors have drains?
boblee: As I've often said: Rust is the eternal enemy of all old vehicles. You might also check the drain holes in the battery box and battery holding tray. They're prone to clogged up drain holes. The battery acid and ambient water make for a witches brew on paint and metal. Check for drain holes u...

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump = High Pressure
What is the pressure reading? Yes, like Just Me, what is the current fuel pressure reading? If you have a problem with the pump that you bought from MWM, why not call John and discuss the issue with him? I would be prepared to give him your fuel pressure readings. Unless you KNOW the actual pressur...

Re: Anyone Install Repro Fuel Line Kit?
I won't do a vehicle with all rubber line just for routing and securing issues. My metal lines won't sag or chafe and are less likely to be damaged than rubber running the length of the truck. You will notice that MOST rubber line in new vehicles is short and between two hard lines. The rubber does...

Re: Anyone Install Repro Fuel Line Kit?
Bob: I agree with everything you pointed out. I use the best high quality "fuel injection line" that I can find. It's priced very reasonably. It's said to be ethanol compatible and is found on all newer FI systems. Keep in mind that rubber vs. steel may be a toss up. You and I have rubber ...

Re: Anyone Install Repro Fuel Line Kit?
I should add that while replacing the rusty old steel lines with rubber lines,
I also installed an electric fuel pump and an uber fuel filter.
Using rubber lines made the plumbing a heck of a lot easier than
wrestling with metal lines.
Pic's of my setup on my gallery.

Re: Anyone Install Repro Fuel Line Kit?
Hi Guys, Yeah, I'm being super lazy.....so how about the fuel line kit......has anyone bought and installed the repro fuel line kit from either VPW or Midwest?? Same questions as for the brake line kit.....were all the lines bent properly and did they fit well? I also assume the lines are steel and...

Re: Tool for turning engine by hand with winch installed
Today i made a tool for turning the engine over with a breaker bar, when the winch is installed. There's probably another way to do it but this was cheap and quick to make and works very well. I turn it with a 1-1/8" socket on an 18" breaker bar. I needed it for setting the valve clearanc...

Re: starting up a truck that hasnt been run for years
Put a little oil in all the cylinders and bar it over by hand first. Any resistance stop and determine the trouble before doing damage. Good call. At least TRY to turn the engine over by hand before using the starter. I don't know how many times I've SEEN and read about people trying to start old v...

Re: Broke the inner window glass, AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Travis, I managed to break the windshield, not the side window. RMS, Do you happen to know the dimensions of the rubber tape? It looks like 1.5"x.063", sound right? Did you use any cement or just a press fit? Thanks, Andy I just installed glass in the front and door windows. Got the rubbe...

Re: HELP ! Lights not working.
I rec'd a package of new grommets from Mike over the weekend. They "look" like the others. At this point Mike has no other choice until he finds a solution for the failing grommets. Changing out the grommets is not brain surgery, just time consuming. I, for one, don't mind having to maybe ...

Re: HELP ! Lights not working.
As posted before, Mike emailed me that he is sending replacement grommets. He also called me when I was out and left a voice mail stating the above. He said he was unaware of the problem and will research a solution. So, go easy on Mike. Give him some time to do his due diligence on the failing grom...

Re: HELP ! Lights not working.
All VWM harness customers........ From what I can tell, VWM harness customers are in all parts of the USA. So, weather like hot and dry in Arizona or cold, wet and salty in Mass. do do seem to be likely candidates for the quickly deteriorating grommets. As "Just Me" has suggested, the grom...

Re: HELP ! Lights not working.
Jerry, That's good news! It means VWM is still a viable company (also good news). Was Mike aware of the problem or did he not say? You might want to take one of the grommets and hang it outside somewhere........and then check its condition every few weeks. If it starts to deteriorate it'll tell you...
