Re: Defroster Tube

Wes, I've looked at Cabel's web site and I was seriously thinking of using the same heater and mounting it the same way BUT the last time that he posted he still hasn't hooked up any kind of defroster and it is my main concern. Here's what Cabell said: "Future plans include the design and insta...

Re: Defroster Tube

I've been thinking about adding a heater and defroster to my M-37 but I hate the looks of the standard, big square tube defroster duct and I've been wondering about making one out of round tubing. Has anyone done this? I'm wondering if I can just cut some slots in if for the defroster vents or if I ...

Re: 1952 M37 with IBM punched card found in frame rail

if it's an 80 column card, then it's an ibm punch card and reads in hollerith code. get your scanner working as i can probably (hopefully) still read it. but if it's a 96 column punch card then it's a honeywell card and i can't help you. The 96 column punch cards were also used by Burroughs. I was ...

Re: Identify these brackets?

I'm looking at the second picture of the lower bracket and I noticed something odd. The vertical cylindrical mount appears to be firmly welded to the two ears that attach to the frame attached to the truck but underneath is an odd looking rig. It appears to have a long stud sticking straight down bu...

cargo hooks?

I went and looked at a M37 that's for sale and I noticed that it had odd cargo hooks on the back. All other M-37s that I've seen have hooks made from a flat piece of metal and they're riveted on. But this one had hooks on the tail gate that had a round cross section and they were bolted on (IIRC!). ...

WR & DMWR manuals?

I recently bought a pile of M-37 manuals and in the stack are a lot of WR 9-xxxx manuals and DMWR 9-xxxx manuals. Some are missing covers but WR appears to stand for "Work Requirement" and DMWR stands for "Depot Maintenance Work Requirement". I've never heard of manuals with this...

Re: What about grease ? ? ?

I read in one of the old Chrysler manuals that they used to place zinc sheets between the spring leaves to quieten and "lubricate" them. I suspect that it would also act as a sacrificial metal and protect the steel springs from corrosion. I've never tried it but it sounds like a good idea....

Found M-37 W/W FS in Orlando

Today I went and looked at an M-37 that's for sale in Orlando. The seller (Dave) is ASKING $2500 but I think that's VERY negotiable. The truck is supposed to be a 1954 but the data plates have been scrubbed so many times that they only thing I could read was the SN and Contract number. I have added ...

Re: Identify these brackets?

I have the fording kit on my '51 and the brackets are nothing like these. In fact, that lower bracket looks like it would be in the way of the exhaust stack from the fording kit. They do look like they might be for something like the big radio mast as creinemann suggested. Here's a link to a website...

Re: pioneer tools correct colors of tools

I dug into the tool colors a while back and what I found was the tools were issued in the manufacturer's original color. For example the metal parts of the shovel were red and the wood was unpainted. However in most commands the first time the truck was painted or even touched up they usually painte...

Re: FIRST AID KIT

The round holes are for rubber bumpers. I've been told that the bumpers are the same as those used on the hood on the M151 to support the windshield when it's down. There MIGHT be slots for straps to hold the FA kit but not all M-37 came with the slots. According to the First Aid FM (FM 21-11 1943),...

Re: Off Topic: WWI German Helmet Question

The US was very isolationist prior to it's entry into WW I and was very unprepared. We had very small military and FEW military supplies. Consequently when we did enter the war we made a MAJOR effort to produce the enormous amounts of supplies for the massive army needed to fight a WORLD WAR. Then s...
