Re: source for replacement rear axle shafts?
great! you must have got hold of him then? someone was asking about upgrade front shafts on the facebook page, but it seems they don't break as often as the rears do and there's probably less demand. saying that, i'm in the process of replacing the passenger side front axle shaft on the latest truck...

Re: Broken rings
it sounds like you put a military chain on civilian timing gears (or at least a civilian cam gear) the difference being that the military chains have a center rib, and the gears have a matching cut out for the rib to ride in. installing a ribbed chain on a non-ribbed gear would make the chain extrem...

Re: replacing front axle shaft
Wow! That one has the new gravity fed fuel delivery system already installed. plus an electric pump behind the cab, plus the mechanical pump is still connected. plus leaky float needle. it gets LOTS of fuel... carb is rebuilt, need to reinstall it. and i need to track down a front passenger side ax...

Re: Broken rings
mine was running extremely well, until my new manifold leaked coolant into the motor, and i mistakenly thought the headgasket was leaking, and pulled the head, and found a broken ring and a sleeve that had dropped 3/8" I made a sleeve puller and sucked it back up and glued it in place, and inst...

Re: replacing front axle shaft
one more question, I see there's supposed to be a spring inside the felt retainer on the knuckle. one side is completely missing the felt, spring, and metal retainer. i found the felt and retainer on ebay, but i haven't been able to find the spring. how important is it? or does anyone have a link or...

Re: A tale of two fuel pumps
that looks like the same exact pump i have installed in my truck, my pump is mounted up in front near the top of the radiator, about as non-ideal location as you can get as far as "the fuel pump should be mounted low, and near the tank", and it still works great. mine has a different brand...

any easy way to set up the distributor ventilation? I do have another military carb...it might be easiest to just switch back to that at some point.

carter BB downdraft in M37
latest truck came with a BB downdraft carb, as shown in the (hopefully) attached photo. i'm curious what the threaded port just above and left of the idle air screw is for. on mine, it's plumbed to one of the vent lines of the distributor. the other vent line is just cut off...i intend to route it i...

Re: replacing front axle shaft
thanks for the links! looks like to get the inner seals and bushings out i would have to pull the center diff? does the inner seal slide all the way thru to the outside, or does it get installed thru the center cavity? *edit* I found my service book which covers the axles, and it has a very good dia...

replacing front axle shaft
bought another truck, this has a broken front axle shaft, the short side. I'm pretty sure i have the technical manual with the exploded views and probably the clearance specs for the joints, and i think i have a few replacement joints and axles, even if they aren't new they should work. is there any...

if anyone sends me some measurements i'll draw up a cad model and blueprints, and we could have some of these reproduced. they look like only about $50 worth of material, or less.

Re: source for replacement rear axle shafts?
i bought new chromoly rear shafts but haven't had a chance to install them yet. they were through a group buy, by a member on here, but he needed 10 sets to meet the minimum order to have them made. If you'd like, i can get his info for you

Re: Successful replacement of Army turn signals with 900 'St
i'm sure someone here will grab up your signal box if you decide not to keep it, i wouldn't mind having one to play with myself! old stuff like that is fun to take apart and see where the smoke got out
