Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37
I have stick, MIG, TIG and torch and a wide array of body and big hammers. The frame has a lot of surface rust on it in places but no deep rust. I looks like it was painted before because I blew it off with shop air and the green paint was coming off in large flakes and leaving behind a black paint ...

Re: Which 24V Electronic Fuel Pump?
Ok, I can't argue with experience but the P/N he is looking at has 1/8" fittings, He definitely need the other 24 volt pump listed if he goes with the Facet. That looks like the same pump used on the MEP series gensets. Good Lord they are noisy!!!!!

Re: Which way is the winch cable fed on?
If you would like to change the pull-in direction, that's easy enough. Remove the brake band housing and reverse the band...there are already holes for either direction. PoW Good info to know, I just verified today with the missus watching the drum and me on the control that it is wound backwards. ...

Re: Which 24V Electronic Fuel Pump?
32 GPH at free flow but only 15 GPH at 1.5 psi. Fuel flow is cut in half with only 1.5 lbs. of pressure added! I am thinking that by the time you get to the 5 lbs. you need the fuel flow will be so small you will be running out of gas at anything above idle. This is what I am using. A rotary vane pu...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37
Got the bed off today. Pleasantly surprised to find the front cross member was not rusted through, it actually has flaking paint and shiny steel. Gas tank looks fairly good but I can see it is leaking under the straps. Will get that out tomorrow I hope. the bed is toast but the supports are not as b...

I have been wondering the same thing, I have found it hard to access pics of any kind anywhere on here.

Re: Rebuild time on the 230 flat head engine
That crack he is talking about appears in the before AND after pics of the block surfacing. Not easy to see in the before shot since that set of holes is a cylinder further down but sure looks like it is there in that shot also. I know we are armchair quarterbacking here but I am seeing a pattern of...

Re: Which way is the winch cable fed on?
That probably explains why the cross bar at the bottom of the winch is bent and destroyed. It is wound backwards which means the controls are backwards. When I got it there was an excess of cable hanging out and the disengage lever was broken in half but pointed in the engaged position. So I gently ...

Which way is the winch cable fed on?
I am definitely overthinking this but I am sure I have seen pics in some manuals where the cable is fed on from the bottom of the winch. I cannot find any decent info anywhere on the subject. I tried to access the pics here on the forum and it tells me I am denied? This is contrary to every winch I ...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37
Got all the bolts out of the bed, only had one bolt in the rear break. Between all of the doctors visits and testing I plan on getting the bed off this weekend and then I can get the gas tank out and see what condition it is in. I can tell you that when I hit the bottom of the tank it sounds like I ...

Re: 240 miles, 25 gal of gas, and a chicken sandwich
Sounds like fun, I have been working on mine bit by bit. Got the bed all unbolted and hopefully over the weekend I will get it under the loader and get that off and get the gas tank out and see what condition that is in.

Re: Rebuild time on the 230 flat head engine
That surface grinder was NOT kind to those coolant passage holes in the block!!! Man that broken out edge is close on a few of them.
On edit, I just went back a few posts and looked at the head before the machining and I can see they were hogged out there also. But now they are REALLY close.

Re: Towing Vehicles???
Just saw a video on a forum I watch about bus conversions and a guy bought three school buses at auction in Fla. for 800.00 each! Not all that bad shape either. I would go for the short bus with the handicap lift if you can find one. probably a bit more money but that hydraulic platform lift is nice.

Re: Towing Vehicles???
Well, They are cheap to buy, parts are abundant, they get generally piss poor fuel mileage and they are ugly. Yup, that pretty much describes most of what we own except for the parts availability. Just remember that a school bus has had a hard life as far as start, stop, start, stop,. Over and over ...
