engine number question

picked up a T245-17003 complete. what does the 17003 stand for? been a while since I posted here. lots of reading to do to catch up.

Kaegi, the ethanol/gas mix burns hotter than straight gas does. so it can create hot spots in the combustion chamber where there were none before. don't believe me? try running your chainsaw hard using the new ethanol/gas mix and then wonder why the piston melted... ARe they running it in WA? If so...

why would ethanol be harmful to a vehicle? I dont see it. Except maybe a 20 plus year old fuel pump might not hold up the diaphram would fail. just replace daiphram wiht modern material that wont fail. I think VPW sells modern diaphrams.

wy not run the T19? one tough tranny. and if you have winch you can get the Chelsea PTO for it. nice score on the 4bt.

this is my first time back to this forum in a couple years. I had problems registering for some reason adn got it handled now. I have seen lots of OD engines in M37s but cantrecall any silver. I prefer silver or the WW2 smoke gray color. I think I will leave it up to whoever buys it if I sell. thank...

Engine color

I am going to rebuild 1953 T245 and want to know the correct factory engine color. I have been rebuilding these flatheads for years but never T245. All T214s and T137s or straight 8s and such.
