Re: Front End Alignment

I use a tape. stock spec is 0"-1/8" i always set at 1/8". the stock caster is basically zero. some people shim more caster in to get a better steering wheel return after making turns. I dont because i like to offroad my dodges and having zero caster almost eliminates bump steer/wheel ...

I ma surprised they quit making those plugs. I think around the world lots of trucks still running with that system. good idea to make the kit.

Re: Valves/tappets rotate in operation?

if they don't spin its time to worry! also on some HD engines usually in trucks and boats and stationary power plants they have bearing plates under the exhaust valves and they spin too Those old 50s mercedes engines did not last very long. I used to work with a German guy on vintage Mercedes in Sea...

Re: Tire question

another option is the 10.50 x 16 made by STA. great looking and makes you go faster being about 38 tall But might not be street legal in the US. yes they are steet legal in the US here is a set on a WC52 https://www.otrusa.com/shop/otr-tires/10-50-16-8pr-d-sta-military-tires-directional-tl/?gclid=E...

Re: Differential Removal

yes you can remove hub and drum together. if you do ever separate the drums and hubs do NOT mix them up. the drums are machined when mounted to their hub. also when re installing the differentials only use NOS gaskets. the aftermarket gaskets are not the correct thickness. they throw off the axle sh...

Re: Differential Removal

I have talked to Bob several times and agree that he has a great reputation. If I lived closer to Boston I would probably have him do it for me. M Series Rebuild is in my backyard and I trust Charles with the job as well. They also use an updated side thrust washer. they are are heavy! closer better.

Re: Differential Removal

I would have Bob Stahl rebuild them. he makes an improved side thrust washer that goes in all his rebuilds. I bet no one has rebuilt more of these diffs than Bob Stahls outfit. I'm guessing this is the place you are recommending? Veteran Vehicles in Wrentham, MA Yes that's them. prices very good too

Re: Guide reamers

reaming changes he size. Rearming enlarges and knurling shrinks the hole. if just cleaning them they make wire brushes for that purpose.

Re: Stovebolt T5 transmission swap?

RCrombie wrote:T98 I think you meant. And yes it’s synchronized 2-3-4. The case that is used is a Canadian design but the innards are T98.
I recall the input shaft being different from othe T98 trans as well, but I think that’s one of the only things.
thanks for the corrections.

Re: Coarse Thread Replacement

fine thread is stronger and less likely to vibrate loose. coarse really only good in castings. i have found if it comes apart clean best to reuse originals or go grade 8. The thread fitment to the nuts on newer bolts is not as precise as the original. what ever you replace grade 5 is minimum

we would have one done and arrange the exchange. that way less down time for you.

Re: Interest in centered rear axle housings

another axle shaft possibility is we may have fine spline axles made and offer them for those running arb or other lockers where the side gears can be changed to fine spline in those carriers. that set up would cost a bit more but not much
