Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
Today I started the engine teardown. First separated the transmission from the bellhousing.
Bellhousing off, now the flywheel:
And then all the accessories, down the short block. This is my dad, the original owner of the truck.

The lights on my van came in handy that night
A week went by and ready for more. Before tearing in to the engine I brought the tub out to get blasted:
In the blast room:

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
And then came the rain.
Back at it. Notice the angle of the stand I had it strapped to my van for safety, and I surely needed it!
My prize has been claimed.

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
Been a while since my last post so I thought I would share an update. Been busy the past few weeks for sure. Decided to tackle the donor: IMG_0535.JPG It was in a precarious spot so I had to use a lot of straps and come-alongs to help persuade the cherry picker in the direction I needed. They also a...

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
@Elwood yup that's the Snap-On stud remover. It was stupid expensive, something like $250 but worth every penny when you are trying to save and reuse parts on these old truck.

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
I ended up drilling it out and using a reverse drill bit to extract it. I had to keep stepping up because they just wouldn't grab. Luckily the last one worked! I didn't want to heat it up because she was all painted perty. IMG_0419.jpg IMG_0420.jpg IMG_0422.jpg Now that the front end is FINALLY toge...

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
Some minor work done this weekend, nothing crazy. Got the front passenger brake drum on. Should have only taken me 30 minutes, but it ended up taking hours because I broke a stud

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
Just asked the seller 57hemicuda about that. I noticed he was trying to unload it in the classifieds area. Not sure what his plans are other than a V8 swap? He didn't have any pics of it but he said it starts up really easy and drives great, plenty of power. He's relatively close to me so I might ta...

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
That abnswers some questions I had for sure. I was looking in the TM and some pictures showed one groove and others showed two. Wonder what the smaller pulley was used for?

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
@Elwood yeah if you look at previous pictures in this thread you will see that this engine has a weird pulley arrangement that's permanently affixed. My other block has the more common six bolt setup. Someone on here was saying that there were different variances based on applications, some with six...

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
So with the engine pretty much stuck we moved on to taking inventory of some other things. My friend Joe, the skinny young guy owns a body shop and is going to help me figure this all out. I've accumulated almost three set of every body part over the years so we picked out the best one for the resto...

Here's the pulley sliding off:
And a shot of it in my hand. Note the felt seal:
We put the nut on for one more go at the hand crank, no dice:

Re: 1962 M37 Newbie Restore
OK got out there today and made an attempt at progress. I decided first thing's first, disconnect the transmission so I can eliminate that from the equation: IMG_0398.jpg I tried to turn it over and still the same thing. Even tried turning the yoke from the rear but it didn't work. I think the clutc...
