Re: Fire extinguisher,General Fire Guard, Quick Aid Model 85

You dont often see the extinquishers with the vehicle brackets. The ones I have seen in antique stores usually have the stamped steel wall mount if any at all. The M37 bracket would have two cam straps that hold the extinquisher. They should be somewhat available but I really couldnt say as I never ...

Re: Fire extinguisher,General Fire Guard, Quick Aid Model 85

I have the same extinquisher that Bruce pictured. Mine is a bit older though. It is a 1qt Pyrene from Newark NJ. The guy I got it from was an owner of a hardware/fishing tackle shop and he was having a sale when he retired. I stopped in and noticed the extinguisher hanging on the wall from a nail. I...

Re: M2 "accident"

An interesting historical note is that the Pennsylvania Railroad killed almost 10,000 people in ten years of operation from 1900 to 1910. The advent of lawyers sueing for wrongful death finally made the railroad industry consider ways to discourage tresspassers. Most people killed were typical town ...

Re: M2 "accident"

In my line of work, I have seen people cut in half, broken into three or five parts and splattered into a unrecognizable heaps, it never really bothers me. But when I see minor hand injuries it simply skeeves me out and makes my skin crawl. Wierd. This one takes the cake. Photos like this get the po...

Re: M37 in Nike missle batteries

I just looked but I cant seem to find it. A local library here had a photo of a M37 at a atlas site here in Nebraska. I know the unit that manned these sites had a few M37's.... these same units also managed the Nike sites in latter years i do believe. NoRM Keep in mind that Nike bases were US Army...

Re: M37 in Nike missle batteries

This is an excellent topic. I grew up near BU-52, a double launcher Nike base near Buffalo, NY. I always wanted to mark my truck for the unit that manned the battery. I found info saying the battery was designated "D/465th or D/2/62nd" AAMBs. I really have not figured out how they would ha...

Re: WHAT IS THAT SMELL??

I think is it a anti fungal compound of some sort. Years ago, I recieved a catalog from Beachwood Canvas. They used to staple a couple of their canvas samples to the front cover and the smell was there when I opened the envelope. The best part was when I took the catalog to work. I was sitting at a ...

Re: Makes you wonder??

My truck, or part of it, is in Dave Ahl`s M37 book. The value of my truck increased substantially thanks to the exposure. This is due to the high regard given to this publication by the M37 community.... 8)

I had the same thing happen with my springs. My female UPS driver who weighed 90 pounds soaking wet, delivered two front springs for my M37, carrying them up two flights of concrete stairs infront of my home and depositing them on my porch. I am 275 pounds and 6`2" and I had a hell of a time ge...

If you secure any moving or loose parts, you dont have to box it. Wrap it in cardboard pieces and put the shipping label on it. UPS will take it despite the fact they love nice, square boxes to handle. I have recieved front spring assemblies via ups and they had no packaging at all. Just an address ...

It seems to me the points that were troublesome were "Mexican" made and the rubbing blocks and springs would go bad. Many M37 parts dealers sold them. I started using USA made Blue Streak (not Blue Points) when my local parts dealer recommended them. That was six years ago and they are sti...

MTA show in NJ

Did anyone go? It is a pretty big show at the Sussex County fairgrounds. Meet a a few people that have M37s still in restoration stages. I took my M42 (in M37 form at the moment) on Saturday. One other M37 was flatbedded in due to a freeze plug failure enroute. I think there may have been one more a...

Has anyone had any dealings with New Life Canvas lately? I have had a M416 cover, a tire cover (and a M42 side curtain for my brother in law`s truck) on order for a while and not heard from them. I tried calling and got the machine last time. I assume they are really busy or they forgot about me. Th...
