Re: 251 oil dipstick length

Interesting twist here: The manual for the M37 CDN (CDN-VEH-D114) with the 251 engine says "The capacity of the engine lubricating system is 4 quarts (refill) or 5 quarts if the oil filter has been drained or replaced." (Pg 13) For the US trucks with the 230 engine, TM 9-8030 says "C...

Re: 251 oil dipstick length

Great!
It sure is strange what gets changed out over the years and then leaves us scratching our heads trying to make sense of it.

Re: Wiring harness early model/late model

One of the main differences is the addition of turn signals on the later trucks. Otherwise they are pretty similar.
Can you look at the part number of your NOS harness and see if it is in fact for an M42 or something? They had some extra equipment.

Re: CDN wiring harness

Well... from what I found on mine, the only real difference was that it did have signals wired in, two extra tail lights on either side of the pintle, and it also had a convoy lamp for the rear diff. That is about it. I also have a NOS front harness for the truck that doesn't really have anything di...

Re: Blown Frost Plug

Of course it would be one that’s tricky to reach! You might be in luck and be able to access it from inside the cab if you remove the panel on the firewall. I’m going to guess that either the plug was defective or wasn’t dimpled properly to hold it in place. Often the problems are with the core plug...

If you need more space and courtesy from other drivers, you could always level up your armament

Could it be that everyone is calm, respectful and rarely in a hurry these days?
Hmm nah there’s got to be some other reason....

Very cool, I didn’t know of that model! I thought there was only one version. I stand corrected.

Re: Got some work done while off...

It’s also not the R2 variant so it is some sort of custom body. Someone put a lot of work into that!

Were you noticing any effects from the worn chain? Or just doing some preventative maintenance? I’m always amazed at these old trucks, how they can keep chugging along despite the wear and tear.

Re: Got some work done while off...

Looks like time well spent! Truck sure looks good too. Did you get new canvas or did you just reinstall it for the summer?
The crash truck has some sort of heavily modified body doesn’t it? I wonder what it started out life as. The folding door is an interesting touch.

Re: Tailgate FS

Hmm that’s a good idea. I think adding the winch will be a job for after the truck is up and running so I’ll wait and see if I find any winch bumpers first. If not, then I’ll think about cutting up what I have. I know rebuilding the winch is going to be a mini project on its own.
