Re: My 1952 Dodge M37 re-building process

Keep in mind the ETW-1 has a unique air cleaner system that also supports the sealed distributor airflow.

The Carter B&B carb will not do this.

Re: Wire Routing / Mounting Hardware / Clips / etc. ???

Mosey over to Steelsoldiers.com and dig up the free downloads of all the G741 series truck tech manuals.

The 10-, 20-, and 30- series TM's have illustrations of all the areas of the vehicles.

Flog your printer and learn more about your truck.

Re: Rear Canvas Flapping

I have all the rear canvas made with Herculite, not cotton duck.

In our climate, one is lucky if canvas lasts a year.

Otherwise a whole lot of flappin' going on.

Somewhere I've seen shielded resistor plugs.

Aircraft, I believe.

Re: Does the M37 share the same pioneer tools with the WC's...?

The axe & pick are the same.

I've seen two different length military pioneer shovels.

The shorter of the two fit M37 racks, I'll have to measure one and report.

Re: My 1952 Dodge M37 re-building process

Looks correct from what I see.

The complete accelerator pump is the key to a good rebuild.

Re: My 1952 Dodge M37 re-building process

Be aware not all ETW1 rebuild kits are alike.

I have seen where a kit sold as compatible is missing several important parts, especially the accelerator pump vacuum piston parts.

Other than that, the ETW1 is as good a carb as one might want on the older flatheads. 8)

Re: 24 Volt Military Coil Modification

Unbalanced charging happens and ruins them.

Because eventually you'll wind up with one 22 volt battery, and another 2 volt one.

Re: Insurance question

All I've ever used insurance outfits like JC and Hagerty is for PD & PL to satisfy the state requirements.

Comp coverage is a luxury I won't afford.

JC Taylor never asked me about any use of my M37.

I live in Maricopa, BTW.

Re: Engine paint color

Depot rebuilds were OD green. A silver is the original engine, I've never seen one from the military with a rebuild tag on a silver. I have seen silvers in M37's and M43's with low miles. Somewheres around here I have an old Chrysler DOD document showing engine overhauls recommended at 15,000 mi, du...

Re: My 1952 Dodge M37 re-building process

Stock M37's in good shape/unmodified have no cooling issues.

I should know, where Summers routinely hit 120F easily.

Chrysler engineers knew what was expected for their last power wagon designs.

Re: Transfer Case Output Seal

Keep in mind the G741 series transfer cases can run almost 300F after a good highway run. Gear oil viscosity at those temps can really thin out and might leak easier. Synthetic oil is great from wear and longevity, but it can also sneak past seals, even new ones. I've used Speedi-Sleeves over the ye...

Re: 265 spitfire in CDN M37

251's are around, the old PW's used them stock. The 265 is a rare one, only found in the big Chrysler and DeSoto cars. All that series flatheads (218 thru 265) had the same bellhousing dimensions. In the day of hotrods with them, some were bored & stroked out to almost 300 cubes. I have a basket...
