Re: Pintle Hitch
That is quite common with ex-military vehicles: They are designed to include many differences from civvy trucks, such as electrics, lighting, and bodywork. What I never understood why so many just ruin the vehicle to turn it into some Frankenstein thing. Cripes, just buy a civvy rig and leave the po...

Yes, the pinion has 3 roller bearings.
Definitely not your garden-variety Dana setup.
Setting the preload is a precise and tedious job.
It involves string and spring gauges.
And patience.
And the correct tools.
Otherwise the job is for naught.

You're correct, it belongs inside the cross member.

The pintle doesn't get close to the tailgate when lowered.
That is, If you have the correct model.
The pioneer tools can touch it, depending on who made them.

Re: My 1952 Dodge M37 re-building process
Well, the M37 engine was designed to run OK on 68 octane gas.
Low compression was necessary so as to not knock, even on rotgut gas.
Most of us mill the head enough to get it up to maybe 8:1 or so, with modern gas. Sure will have more pep...

Re: My 1952 Dodge M37 re-building process

Just curious why you need a recovery system? The truck was engineered without one to handle any hot, desert climate on earth.
