That did it! Thank you for the visual aid. It's been fixed and now I'm ready to add oil and reconnect everything.
Thank you for all the help.

Re: Transmission won't shift to third?
I apologize, but how do I tell if one is engaged?
I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

Re: Transmission won't shift to third?
I'm not sure which transmission it is. The truck is a 63 and the stamp on the transmission is from October of 1962 if that tells you anything.

Re: Transmission won't shift to third?
If that's the case, it should be a simple matter of removing the cover and pushing things around to make sure the cover is mated back up correctly, yes?

Transmission won't shift to third?
After taking my transmission out to put on a PTO for a winch, the transmission will not shift to third. Here are some relevant data points: 1. Gear lash on third gear was measured at 0.003". Specs per the manual I read (Canadian version) read this should be set at 0.003 to 0.008. 2. On the stan...

Re: Operating an M37 with improper battery cable installation
Also watch out for your regulator. If you've got the solid state regulator you'll blow it if you try to hook it back up the 'right' way. I don't know how the mechanical regulator will react.
Ask me how I know.

Re: PTO Install
I'm glad I took the transmission out of the truck to do this. It would have been a nightmare otherwise.
I have to order some more gaskets, but to anyone out there who is looking to service the PTO or install it: take it out of the truck.

Re: PTO Install
Thanks, Elwood.
Thankfully, pulling the transmission on these trucks isn't too big of a deal.
I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

PTO Install
Does the transmission need to come off the truck to install the PTO? I'm installing a PTO on a non-winch truck, but it's like the PTO is getting hung up on the clutch linkage or something when I try to get it in place. I put all the studs in the transmission first, but I may try taking them out firs...

Re: MasterPro GL 4 Gear Oil
I'm no lube guru, but isn't an SAE 140 way to high a viscosity for the stock transmission ans transfer case? An SAE 50 oil is the equivalent viscosity to the 90 weight gear oil recommended in the manual. The problem with SAE 50 is I have never been able to find it in a container that isn't at least...

Re: Braden LU4 Rebuilt!
The mismatch was taken care of about 6 months later when I was run off the side of a narrow dirt road and into a ditch by a truck coming the other way. Brutus got in an argument with a utility pole, damaging the bumpers, radiator, and most of the sheet metal on the front end. (The left Fender and c...

Braden LU4 Rebuilt!
Finally finished up my rebuild of a 1962 LU4 for my 1963 non-winch truck. Sourcing the pieces wasn't too big of a deal (except for the bumpers!) but the rebuild was easy enough with the exception of the issues I had with the main shaft being out of round. Still, feeling good after getting this done ...
