Re: How to install freeze plugs?
Hey, Tanner! Long time, no see. Same for Cabell. Is he still playing with M37s? Now for some really useful EXPERT advice regarding the picking up of turds: "Never pick up a turd by the tapered end. The mass of the blunt end quickly fatigues the tensile strength of the tapered end, resulting in ...

Re: General Error Notice
Delete out your saved Internet files, history, cookies , etc. as this can clog things up with time. Gary I need to clear out my cookies, too. Trouble is, it's been so long since I did it that I've forgotten how. Anyone care to point me in the right direction? (I'm running Windows XP and using Micro...

The "big" data plate will tell you which branch of our armed forces it belonged to (the "responsible agency" blank). After that, the only things you'll have to go on are whatever hidden markings you come across under the various layers of paint. Unit of assignment was not part of...

Re: How to install freeze plugs?
How about we start a new name for 'em and just call 'em "bungs?"
(You know...like a bung in a barrel? Does the same thing, just in a metal hole.)

Re: Complete conversion to 12 volt Question
Ouch! Shot myself in the foot, huh? That's what I get for passing along information that I "heard from other sources" without verifying its accuracy, isn't it?
Now for the biggest lie in the military:
"Sorry, Sir! It won't happen again, Sir!"

Re: Best method for GI five-gallon plastic water can cleanin
...plastics will start to absorb the oils-fuels. Once ... impregnated with a petroleum product they are not useful for palatable water anymore. Very true. The plastic, itself, is a petroleum product which tends to absorb other petroleum products very easily. Personally, I don't care to drink water ...

Re: Best method for GI five-gallon plastic water can cleanin
If you have access to a steam hose, a minute or two with that should solve the problem.
You could also try using a hot water/dish washing liquid solution. Shake it around vigorously and rinse with cold water. Then, rinse it again with a cold water/bleach solution and set it upside down to dry.

Re: Complete conversion to 12 volt Question
Maybe my "gray cells" are leaking out and turning my hair gray. (Yeah! THAT'S why my hair is almost white!) I may have stepped over the line just a bit when I said that "there ARE plenty of 12-volt starters." That should have been "were." It might take some digging to f...

Re: Complete conversion to 12 volt Question
I'm glad you said "seemingly" problematic 24-volt system! If all the components are in good shape, it is no more "problematic" than any other electrical system,. Good wires, good connections, good lights, good switches, etc. make any system good...especially the wires! With 24 vo...

How did that happen? That first reply disappeared while I was still typing it. I hit a wrong key somewhere and it just went away.
I started over and did everything right, and voila! There it is! It posted all by itself!

Re: Cab dolly plans
Glad you found what you needed (or a reasonable substitute).
I've always found, though, that there's no shortage of "cab Dollies" hanging around the truck stop parking lots. Some of the cruder guys call 'em "lot lizards."

Hey, Top! I got curious, which can be a very dangerous thing when you have nothing but time on your hands, and did some searching. It turns out that Hartmann (2 "n"s) Trunk Co. is still in business. Their web site has a link to pics of some of their antique trunks. What you have is definat...

It IS easy.....if you have all the parts, a fully equipped machine shop, all the necessary tools to do the job, the knowledge required for the task, all the time in the world, an interested spouse, and an unlimited supply of money. ;) The trouble is, most of us are severely lacking in at least two o...
