Re: Gear reduction starter
I'm always surprised at how slowly mine cranks over and still starts, when it's -10F and not plugged in. got to be real careful and not let it idle too high as it warms up or it'll try and push oil out the top of the oil filter canister. I'll be switching to synthetic oil next winter

Re: Locking hubs
usually the freewheel hubs won't break unless they hit something like a rock or stump, i wouldn't count on them giving out before twisting off an axle. I had one hub freeze up in the "free" position, making it so i couldn't climb out of the icy ditch across the road...lucky the winch was s...

Re: Winch Questions
the plate on mine is steel, but only has 4 holes in it, while there are a total of 8 holes in the top of the winch. mine only covers half of the top.
the rod on mine is a piece of all-thread. i'll leave it for now, it's close to the same strength as the original aluminum piece would have been.

Re: Winch Questions
I'll have to look back and see which error you're talking about, i didn't follow his re-assembly, i just put everything together the way i felt like it should go...so now i'm going back to look and see which part he mentions :) *edit* oh, you mean photo 8? i installed both rings on either side of th...

Re: Winch Questions
just getting my winch back together after following all the pictures in the link at moose creek maple. I know i saw them somewhere, but i need to find the dimensions for the top plate. the holes in mine are way oversized and i'd like to try and get it back where it's supposed to go. or... i can just...

Re: farm truck rustoration
on my 251, i swapped the bell housing, transmission, ring gear, and starter. used the flywheel and clutch from the 251. installed in a civvy power wagon and used the 6v starter on 12V system. so far, it's working good.

you didn't mention what pressure that's at.
using the very basic "cfm to HP" conversion, 400cfm is good for just shy of 600hp
3300 rpm on a centrifugal charger seems low

Re: How to Disassemble This Jack?
i don't believe the top of this one screws in or out, i thin it's a fixed casting, different from the other "screw out" style.

Re: How to Disassemble This Jack?
have you tried raising it all the way up? it might be simple enough that you can just raise it all the way to the top until the plunger comes out. but i don't know for sure at all

Re: Carb rebuild kit W/ synthetic acccel. pump?
Follow-up question: is there anything that seals the accelerator shaft piston (not the plunger) inside its bore? my rebuild kit only had a brass piston inside a brass sleeve, is that enough to form the vacuum needed for accelerator pump operation, or is there supposed to be a thin O-ring on the plun...

Carb rebuild kit W/ synthetic acccel. pump?
Looking to see if anyone has a source for a carb rebuild kit that comes with a rubber or synthetic accelerator pump plunger, instead of the leather plunger. My truck has terrible hesitation when you give it throttle until it comes up to speed, and i'm trying to narrow down whether it's a case of not...
