Rehydrate it seems like the good answer to me. Put a lawn sprinkler under it for a few hours, or soak with a garden hose on 20 min intervals. I swapped mine, but went with a nv4500 trans. All custom mounts, transfer case is still stock in its home location. As long as your good at fab work it's a breeze. If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them.

Between the brine and salt they treat the roads with around these parts my truck goes into hibernation in the winter months, I'd hate to see it rot out like everything else around here.

I used a gm style NV due to length and for the tail shaft setup, also used the stock TC in factory location.
