Re: 318 V8 swap lessons learned

The bellhousings used on the flat head sixes were a different bolt pattern on both sides of the housing. The M37 NP420 case was designed to bolt up to a flat head bellhousing while the civilian NP420 was not. Or at least all civilian NP420's I have found were bolted up to either V8's or the slant si...

Re: 318 V8 swap lessons learned

The early and late M37 transmissions would interchange without any modifications. The NP420 used in the M37 is the B series or later transmission. There is also the civilian NP420 transmission. The input shafts used on these transmissions are of different lengths. And you will find find different in...

Re: My Son, Lee Carter Davidson Jr.

I know how much I love my children, even though they're now grown and married. I am overwhelmed at the thought of how great is the grief and despair you and your family are feeling. Even though I don't know you or your dear son, my heart is heavy with sadness. I'll say a prayer and offer my deepest ...

Bryan I forgot that was you ( somebody) at the SS site with all the great info and insight on doing this conversion. I did not think about the heat output as my reducers for the trailer connectors were mounted to the back frame. Regards Bill W Hi Bill, I've used that method on a trailer that was 12...

Some more notes

I see where somebody mentioned a special wiring harness for converting to a 12 volt system. I don't want to rub somebodies rubarb the wrong way here so I'll try to eplain what the concept is. Most wiring in an M series such as our M37s is what is called 14 AWG or gauge. This wire is rated at around ...

As mentioned by Bryan you could put a resister on #16 wire, this wire supplies power from the light switch to the dimmer switch ( mounted on the floorboard) which supplies feed to the hi/lo beams. Someone on the SS site also recomended putting the resister on the headlight ground instead of #16 but...

Re: Headlight

Are there anyway to run 12 volt headlights with a 24 volt system? Thanks, Cyrus Yes, there is. There is some detailed information on just this subject over at Steel Soldiers right now. Both low and high beams in a lamp use a common ground output connector. Determine the wattage of your 12 lamp and ...

Where's the Plates? (Beef)

Try MVdataplates.com Thanks for the info Lifer, but if you go to Rod's site you'll see that almost every data plate for the M37 series is "Not Available At This Time." Kind of a waste of time you'd think. The site I'm refering to is: http://www.rapcoparts.com/index.html They seem to have ...

Data Plates

I believe there is a fellow in Texas that sells excellent quality remakes of the data plates. It's called Rapco as I recall. Not very expensive.

Not H Freight

No, Harbor doesn't have any two stage jacks. I checked there as well before I bought from Northern. I meant that Harbor does have really low prices on regular botlle jacks like your thinking about. I hope I didn't sound lke I was busting your jaws. I was actually trying to give some advice that ever...

Re: Price isn't so reasonable after all....

The shipping price to my area Pa is $17. 20. So coupled with the $29.99 price tag thats almost $50.00 for a 6 ton jack. Wal-Mart has a twelve ton single ram bottle for $34.99 without the shipping, and its raised height is close to that of the dual ram. Strictly from a cost savings standpoint I thin...

STOP!!! There may be an alternative.

 :D I'm not at all familiar with your neck of the woods but you may have an area that would have a spring shop. For me it's Denver Spring. The springs on the M37 6X6 were starting to flatten out quite a bit and there is the effort to take them apart and beat on the backside with a big hammer....

YF-12A SR-71

Interesting detailed history on the development of the bird and the "Skunkworks". The plane is never completely fueled before takeoff because of the leaking. It must fueled in the air immediately after take off. Pilots must wear special suits because of the incredible heat that the plane g...
