Look to page 2 here for a lifted M37. Looks neat, but I imagine it would be kind of high. I've rarely seen a lifted M37 that still retained the original axles. I wonder what the steering modificatons were done.

Nice pic. I haven't seen that one yet. You can see how little room is left near the rear of the fender and the tire with the stock 9.00-16 (36") tire.

Re: Stay original suspension or go GM 2 1/2" springs?
Will is correct. I wish to run a 38-40" tire, and want to minimize the chance of the tires rubbing the front fenders (on the firewall end). I am looking for minimal lift to achieve this. I'll probably 're-engineer' the mount as Taco suggests. If I did stay with a 36" tire I would leave the...

Re: Stay original suspension or go GM 2 1/2" springs?
I am thinking of moving the front springs forward about 2". Moving the fixed front spring hanger forward is not a problem. It can just be slid forward on the straight frame channel and bolted into place. The shackle end is alittle different. Moving the shackle hanger forward 2" puts it int...

Re: Stay original suspension or go GM 2 1/2" springs?
Thanks for the replies. Some good points brought up by both of you. I will stick with the original springs. Will, what did you do to get the the 1" lift up front and the 2" in the rear? I can't believe the flex in your pics for a stock 1950's factory designed suspension! Impressive! EDIT: ...

Stay original suspension or go GM 2 1/2" springs?
So from a previous thread I've decided to go with a narrowed GM Dana 60 frt, and 14bFF rear. I'll try to duplicate the track width of the original M37 62" center to center track width as much as possible. I'm not sure if I will stay stock height, or maybe try for about 2" suspension lift a...

Re: Converting M37 to D60 and 14ff axles
Will, nice comparison. Thanks.
Did you lift yours at all?
So I am going to narrow the front. Glad didn't sell that frt D60 housing!
Anyone have some military looking rims to suggest beside H1 rims, that may look in character with the truck?

Re: Converting M37 to D60 and 14ff axles
Yes, correct about the backspacing, interference with steering components, offset, etc.. I would fun front wheel spacers (I think it is 1.5" spacers are needed) to run H1 rims on a non-dually style type frt Dana 60. I may put the dually style hubs on the front if I come across a set. Then I won...

Re: Converting M37 to D60 and 14ff axles
Will, My 1985 CUCV with 15/39.5" Swampers on 16.5x10 rims measures 84" tire sidewall to tire sidewall in the rear. I think the M37 data plate states 72" tire sidewall to sidewall. I agree overly wide starts to scream modified, and can detract from the original look. A narrow track wil...

Converting M37 to D60 and 14ff axles
Well I have an extra set of 1 ton axles. A GM Dana 60 front and GM 14boltFF with Detroit locker and disc brakes. I also have a spare GM Dana 60 frt bare front axle housing, which I coud narrow. I was thinking of installing front springs in the manner Master Yota chronicled here: http://www.g741.org/...
