Re: History due to a picture

Bob's stories are great to read...thanks for sharing them!

Do you think this is the patch he described? It looks close (minus the yellow border), but this particular one is sold. Scroll to the last one on the page

Re: What a waste

I thought I had read something like 110,000 M37s built during the lifespan of production. I may read (or grossly misread!) on one of of the production charts listed on this website. If that number is true, then it was for the 18 or so years the trucks were made. That really puts the wartime producti...

Re: My Son, Lee Carter Davidson Jr.

Carter,

I am terribly sorry to read of the tragic events that fate has bestowed upon your family. My sentiments and prayers echo those that have previously written. I am a father of two, and my heart cannot even begin to comprehend this type of pain.

Re: For Sale

Hi Bill,

I might be interested in one of your gas tanks. What is your asking price? Are they solid...any indications of pinholes, rust through, etc? I am in Jacksonville through Sunday and then I have to go back to SC. I could definitely find time this weekend for a trip to Ocala.

That is fantastic, Stu! Post war encompasses quite the time span. You should be proud.

Re: Ask Lifer

For what it is worth, my data plates are original to my truck. The DoD is 5/21/53. The procurement agency is United States Air Force and the depot maintenance is the same. I've got United State Air Force stamped everywhere on the one plate! For the last year I have spent most of my time removing sev...

Re: What a waste

I see pictures like that and am totally amazed that there are any jeeps left from the war. Didn't they only make something like 600,000 or so of them? Although depressing, it is still neat to see. Thanks for posting.

Re: Charles D Briggs Jr. aka Lifer

Although I haven't been around this forum anywhere near the length of time as most users here, I have, however, read A LOT of posts by "Lifer" and can definitely say that through his posts, he has taught me a lot about this hobby, and my M37. For that, I am truly grateful for the time and ...

UPDATED marking finds on the Strata Blue layer: The hood reads (in yellow): U.S.A.F. A17500 The doors appeared to both be empty except for the following listed on the lower right hand corner of the driver's door (in white): PROCESSED BY THE TUMPANE CO. INC. VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON 4 FEB. 54 Does anyon...

Re: surplus markings? Or something else?

Thanks Wes, Lifer for the info. I have been searching for these Tumpane Co. guys this weekend and have thus far only found very vague information. So this is a start. I feel fairly confident that the doors have been with the truck for it's lifetime since the exact multiple layers of paint were remov...

Re: surplus markings? Or something else?

maybe all isn't lost. While searching the internet, I found this old post: http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26509 About half way down the first page, the seller of the jeep makes reference to a K-38 trailer with this marking on it: PROCESSED BY THE TUMPANE CO. VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON...

surplus markings? Or something else?

Hello all- I was sanding down the door of a '53 USAF truck today. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing while going over the lower, right outside corner of the driver's door. Murphy's Law- I didn't expect to find anything in this area and ended up finding A LOT of white letters over the stra...
