Re: Stuck service brakes

Good thinking - so the idea is that if there isn't enough free play in the return stroke of the brake pedal, then the ports will be blocked by the piston.
I'll try that first - less messy than flushing the whole system. :D

Stuck service brakes

Seeking the hive-mind wisdom on this one. My brakes: 4 wheel disk with dual chamber m/c. (I highly recommend the mod!) Installed abt. 12 years ago. Problem: after applying the brakes a few times, the pressure in the system does not drop back down. Brake pedal is rock hard. All 4 brakes are locked up...

Re: She's listing to starbord, cap'n!

this is most likely due to the shims on the drivers side to compensate for the weight of the spare tire hanging off the door. the shimmy is likely due to worn/frost damaged tie rod ends, knuckle bushes/ bearings, affecting camber caster and/or toe. I forgot to mention, mine's a 1951 - bed mounted s...

She's listing to starbord, cap'n!

My truck has always had a distinctive lean towards the passenger side. It has now developed a slight shimmy in the front end that resonates at about 40 MPH - my cue to start tearing into things before something fails (again ). I'm looking at the sagging leaf springs in my suspension, and wonde...

Re: No spark. And then ...

Long overdue followup. Drumroll please ...
The coil was the problem! Changed it out. Now it starts right up & runs like a champ.
Thanks all.

Re: No spark. And then ...

Hmm - that's what I was thinking. Good thing I have a spare coil. Too bad it was in my basement when I broke down.
tbone1004 wrote:probably a bad coil but could also be the distributor. I'm leaning coil though because they can do some weird stuff when they start going bad

Re: No spark. And then ...

Good question - I could smell it in the carb after far too much cranking. The ignition switch has Packard connectors, and all connectors have dielectric grease on them. Hi N1, Just being Devil's advocate here......how did you know you had fuel, but no spark? Are you running the original ignition swi...

No spark. And then ...

Driving around yesterday - M37 was running like a swiss watch. Stopped somewhere for a few hours. When I went to start the truck, she'd crank, but there was no spark at the plugs. Of course, it was getting cold and dark, and snowing furiously. (This never seems to happen on nice days). Also my voltm...

Re: Pictures, A Letter, and a Question!

Any chance your distributor adjusting bolt wiggled loose and your timing is off? Hopefully it is something simple that you find & fix before it gets too chilly.

Re: Star size?

Thanks Bert. Only plan on putting them on for parades & taking them off right after (like the pioneer tools - too tempting for someone to "borrow" from a parking lot). A word of caution for your magnetic vinyl markings. They will hold moisture under them and promote rust, make sure to ...

Re: Star size?

Thanks Mike. Especially for reading what I meant & not what I wrote. A 20" radius star would be a bit huge - might as well paint my whole hood flat white. I'm going to cut out markings from magnet-backed vinyl. It is sold by the sheet as cut-your-own HVAC vent/register covers. The cu...

Star size?

I'm clearly thinking to hard about this ... The 20" star that goes on the hood - how is that measured? I can think of several possibilities: 1: draw a circle with a 20" radius - inscribe a star so that the 5 points lie on the circle 2: number the points of the star 1, 2, 3, 4, 5: The line ...

Re: Rejuvenating rubber firewall grommets

I've had the most luck soaking parts in Gibbs. Let me rephrase that ... the only thing that I have ever used that showed even the slightest hint of softening old rubber is Gibbs. http://www.gibbsbrand.net/home.html The claims read like snake oil, but don't knock the stuff until you have tried it. Be...
