Re: the $3000 Fuel Filter
I haver searched for some time for a big canister fuel filter, most of the fuel filters are small and of limited capacity, for modern, supposedly clean fuel systems. But I just can't find a place back inside the frame rails to put one, just no room. ... ...I don't off road anymore, but still don't ...

Re: MORE TIRE WORK...
Rick, I should clarify, the wheel that failed was not treated with acid, just sandblasting by the previous owner. Only the replacement wheel got the acid treatment. I use a phosphoric acid product that converts iron oxide into iron phosphate, it is a no rinse air dry process that leaves a benign bla...

Re: MORE TIRE WORK...
One rim is now losing rivets so they scrapped that one per my request I've been there recently, in a weirder way. I bought a 'good' used spare wheel years ago that had been sand blasted and primed with red oxide. I painted it and mounted one of my old tires, a 1964 dated NDT, to make a spare. Anywa...

Re: Old truck, new questions. Bumper markings revisited
I have finished sanding down the rear bumpers and can report the driver's side rear matches the front bumper almost layer for layer but has not yielded anything new and the passenger's side rear is a jumbled mess of partial letters and numbers but none of it is positively identifiable. There appears...

Old truck, new questions. Bumper markings revisited
Hello All, It's hard to believe that I've had my '64 M37 for 9 years now. I found it behind a barn when I was in school, bartered for it and ever since then I have driven it, been married in the back of it and taken care of it without giving much thought to it's history. I was fortunate to have unit...

Re: Hot Transfer Case
Edit: Terry beat me to it on a few points. I didn't think about the hot air under the cab, that could be a big factor too. I'll take a stab at it. I think the three largest contributing factors are... 1-the offset rear power output 2-the relatively small oil capacity 3-the heavy cast case I'll expan...

Re: 12v fuel pump in 24v vehicle?
My truck had the same kind of setup on it, also installed by a fire department, it eventually killed both batteries. I learned that push starting 6000 lbs of truck, by yourself, with a stone cold motor, sucks! When I replaced the batteries I replaced the fuel pump too. Instead of buying a 24volt ele...
Re: Axles
I talked to my family and dad says he can pick the axles up for me since I won't be able to get home for a while. I will PM you our home number so you can get ahold of him.
Thanks,
Collin

Re: Axles
How long will you be willing to hold on to them before sending them to scrap? I am from Poulsbo, but I'm attending school on the other side of the state right now and I can't get back home for at least a few weeks. Are they stock gear ratio?
Thanks,
Collin

Re: Diesel repower alternatives to the 4BT?
I looked at running a dry sump, the simplest way I could think to do it was replace the oilpan with a piece of flat sheet metal with a pick up line for a scavange pump, pipe that into a remote tank, then use a pressure pump to shove the oil into the port where the oil filter would go. The pumps are ...

Re: Diesel repower alternatives to the 4BT?
No worries, I've been trying to figure out those very issues for the last few days. I was thinking that I'd have to get a 4x4 labs adapter kit for the tranny and run an SM420, but the front sump has me stumped so far. I've been searching for a rear sump set up but the dang oil pump at the front of t...

Re: Diesel repower alternatives to the 4BT?
Well, I've done some more research and a lot of fooling around with excel and different engine specs and torque curves and power ratings and I think I might finally be onto something. I had a hard time comparing different engines directly because they really are apples and oranges, so I decided to f...

Re: Diesel repower alternatives to the 4BT?
Bryan, Thank you for the additional info on the 6.x swap, it sounds like I could do that without much trouble if I choose. 2500 RPM seams kinda low for what I want to do, that would limit me to 45 MPH with whatever motor I use if I keep the stock gears, until I can afford to regear the axles. I thin...

Re: Diesel repower alternatives to the 4BT?
Thank you for finding that Tanner, that is much more modification than I want to take on so the 6.9 and 7.3 are out... I am not THAT crazy about those motors! As for the shaft, it has been doing it the entire time I've owned the truck, the shafts don't show any signs of damage, but it is possible on...

Re: Diesel repower alternatives to the 4BT?
That actually seams like pretty respectable milage for a gasser pickup truck, much more than I would have expected. On my truck at least one of the drive shafts makes a pretty good vibration, none of my u-joints are loose, all my flange bolts are torqued properly, and it's still there when I coast a...
