Re: Gas Tank Refurbing

Be very careful not to use a cleaning product with chlorine!! When chlorine hits gas it will explode! That's a very good point, I'd also be very conscious of any disposal method you would need to implement for any cleaning chemicals you use also. Some of that stuff you do not want in the wrong plac...

Rough but clearly treasure :D Even if just for parts, if the price is reasonable it's almost your duty to drag them home LoL

Re: Gas Tank Refurbing

Can't say as I am a expert by any means, but I have refurbished a few tanks in my day for restorations. Here is how I did the one on my M715 I used to have. Removed tank, inspected for rust holes after a good pressure washing. I then took the tank to a radiator shop and had it boiled out clean. At h...

Re: Fuel Tank Drain Plug - Front or Back?

Gentleman... Interesting thread. I have a 51 fairly early production 80006188 it has just the rear spigot mentioned. I have a 52 80027514 that had both the rear spigot and the drain plug in the bottom front of the tank. According to the "production changes" page here, in Dec 1952 starting ...

Re: Engine serials vs chassis serials 1951

I maybe can help here... my one M37 is serial 80006188 and has the high fill port transmission. fair chance it may have the original engine/transmission also. It was given to the Sioux Indian tribe in 1959 according to what I was told. They were given 4 trucks at the time, two for parts, two for use...

I have a Harbor Freight 4 legged HD version that holds up a Cummins 6bt just fine, so it should handle the little six no prob.

Re: Building a retro M37

I like this concept...enough I think I might do some leg work myself and mock it up a little. I have been considering this option as well as just gutting the M37's frame of cross members and seeing what can be done. But admittedly this way sure looks like less intense fabrication work is required. S...

Re: 1953 Truck ID and color scheme

I have had the exact opposite issue. My Wife thinks it would be very cool to have a truck from each branch of the Military. I'd have to buy another one to pull that off. lol

Re: M37 production figures, interesting

I also find the production of these trucks quite fascinating. What I wouldn't give to talk to someone who was there in 1950-51 especially. Old photographs that do pop up in books/web suggest multiple assembly lines and huge parking lots full of trucks. At one point over the years I have seen on litt...

Re: seril # question

Thanks guys for the ideas. I was mistaken the truck I have is low for a 1951, but not at all low overall. So maybe less of a deal anyway. http://www.retrofarms.net/M37/pair1.jpg http://www.retrofarms.net/M37/pair3.jpg These are what I have to work with. I have removed many of the top bows, troop sea...

seril # question

Hello all, I could use some M37 related advice. I am about to start on a project I have been wanting to build for quite some time. It will require some pretty heavy drive-train modifications. (similar to Josh's truck but a bit simpler ) So I have 3 M37's, One is a parts rig, and the other two are ni...

Re: e87 gas

This is a interesting question. E85 fuel is not near as "evil" as many would lead you to believe. Lifer is correct, the E85 is hard on "some" rubber types/alloys. Keep something in mind, E85 is nothing more than diluted "moonshine" and during WW2 here in the Midwest and...

Re: Trailers....Bah!...

Wow looks like you had a good day compared to what it could have been. I have been in a similar spot once...these days people ask me why my fancy looking featherlight car trailer has two spare tires mounted on it. I learn pretty quick lol I'd guess your correct about the sec tire failing due to the ...

I would do as was suggested and source the problem. My wife drives our M37 almost daily here on the farm and she's all of 110lbs. She has never had an issue.

Re: M37 in Nike missle batteries

I just looked but I cant seem to find it. A local library here had a photo of a M37 at a atlas site here in Nebraska. I know the unit that manned these sites had a few M37's.... these same units also managed the Nike sites in latter years i do believe.
