Re: Remove pistons while engine is in the truck?
I totally agree with trying ATF, freed up a 1961 seized outboard that way and it ran great after a 3 month soaking. As an aside when building an engine it was always common practice to lube up the cylinder and piston with engine oil. It is much better to use ATF for piston installation as ATF will n...

Had a good laugh today
So I was asked to write a chapter for a book on a certain battle we fought in RVN. I went to Mapquest as I needed to refresh my memory on north / south to get it right. So this city which is near and was part of the battle is still there. Just for giggles I look for hotels, restaurants, gas stations...
Re: 230 Dodge
Well, you are so right, 50 yrs. is a long time and lately I have been feeling a lot older than my age and have back surgery scheduled in January. Have been in a lot of pain and the Oxycodone does little to ease it.
Carter, good luck with the surgery. As far as the Oxycontin goes my advise is...

Re: Fuel for my M37
Tim, The first picture is my washing rig doing it's phase separation thing. The container is a VP racing fuel 5 gal jug. The red you see is the 1 gallon of both water and Ethanol dyed red. Above that is less 4 gals. of E free gasoline. In the next picture is the re worked top cap. The cap is already...

Re: MM's M37 Pics as Promised
MM, What can I say, what you have turned your M37 into is fantastic. The lines you created both stay looking military and the well thought out functionality makes it work for you. My hat is off to you on this one. You do realize many questions are to follow. Maybe not to copy it but just to see how ...
Re: 230 Dodge
Another Brandy, and reading this another memory popped up.It seems that car had a weak battery and when the temps dropped to around 5 below it wouldn't start. At the time using my very few extra $$ on Molson's Ale was more important than a battery. So unlike a standard stick shift you can't just get...
230 Dodge
While drinking my evening Brandy a memory came back. I was always a Ford guy and thought my M37 was my first Dodge and my first 230 Flat head Dodge power. Tonight I remembered that in 1965 while in forestry college I bought a $60 car for runs to town. That car was a 2dr 1950 Dodge D34. I just went a...

Re: Fuel for my M37
Hi Wayne, How do you wash the ethanol out of the gas? Tim Tree Huggers close your eyes, or find something to puke in. How I used to do it. First off is the container to use. For a low buck try get a Poland spring 5 gal. water bottle and cap. This will be the quick and dirty way. Add 1 gal of water,...

Re: Tailgate Reinforcement Field Modification
All of the tailgates I have seen have had that same repair that looks exactly as Tanner so aptly described. It reminded me of a story told by a good friend of mine who was a Viet Nam Vet. He went through boot camp with a bunch of guys out of the hills who didnt know ...

Re: Fuel for my M37
Best move I've made in a long time. Lucked out and met a fellow that owns and flies a WWII fighter trainer. I scored 22 gals. @ $5 per. Mixed 10 gals. with the 6 gals. approx. of E10 that was left in the tank. As soon as the new mix hit the carb the engine flat out ran smoother. I'm now playing with...

Re: Tailgate Reinforcement Field Modification
My '63 B1 has the field tail gate mod - looks like the welding was done with jumper cables & a coat hanger, ground down with a pine cone, and buffed with a squirrel... 'Tanner' Tanner, you have a great way with words. I will relay your fine description to both my Son's who are also certified we...

Re: Tailgate Reinforcement Field Modification
Since we are doing a survey. My B1 gate didn't have the reinforcement. My earlier spare gate does and it looks like Carters picture. The earlier tailgate had less dents, but since the gate was Ex Fire Department I figured they added the band iron. Long story short being a welder for 45 years I could...

Re: Fuel for my M37
Thanks Bert, Been to that site before. Problem is the closest place is about a 4 hour drive. I will check NJ and Pa. as my Son's get there from time to time. Living in downstate NY is the worse, an example is a CCP is issued upstate for life unless revoked. Downstate I have to pay $200 every 5 years...

Fuel for my M37
I hate Ethanol. For my boat engine, lawn mower, Chainsaw, generators and basically everything that is not OBII computer driven. This is not a rant as I have accepted the fact that the tree huggers, lobbyists and politicians have worn me down. I am now going to buy at least 60 gals. of Av-gas which i...
