Well, of course, makes perfect sense now!
Why didn't I think of it before? I'll blame it on pain medication for a bum tooth.
Thanks!

Timing mark question
Finally got around to doing the timing yesterday, and eventually found the marks on the pulley. The middle line is "0C" which I assume is TDC (and which seemed to correspond to the number 1 piston being at the top of it's travel), then after 10 lines on both sides of 0C is the number 10, w...

What kind of fuel pump do you currently have? If it's one of the original mechanical fuel pumps I think you'll have to try one of the usual parts places, like John at Mid West Military http://www.midwestmil.com/ , or VPW. Might want to try a rebuild kit too. I got a rebuild kit from John at MWM and ...

I've had the light switch assembly apart before, there's no breaker in there. BUT, I didn't have any dash lights when I bought the truck, turned out to be dirty connections inside the light switch. According to the M37 wiring diagram, there is nothing common between the dash lights and the headlight...

Yesterday I was ready to set fire to it!
I'm sure you've all been there, but I thought I'd share my latest trials and tribulations and maybe you'll get a chuckle. I just rebuilt the carburetor yesterday (thanks to a rebuild kit from John at MWM). I put it all back together, primed it, painted it, and put it back on the truck. Squirted a li...

I have a very similar problem with needing some choke at idle and crapping out with normal accelerator pressure, requiring very gingerly pressing of the accelerator to not stall. A mechanic who helped me with some other issues said the accelerator pump inside the carb was most likely bad. I'm about ...

Carb Gasket Scans
I've screwed up a few gaskets here and there while replacing parts on my truck and had to make new ones. Well, if the old gasket is still somewhat intact, then it's not that big of a deal to trace it out and make a new one. But for the ones that are beyond all recognition, the process of making a ne...

DIY - M37 Boarding Ladder
Here are plans and pictures for building a wooden boarding ladder for the M37. The metal ones I've seen are a little pricy, while this one can be built with 2 2x6's, a few lag bolts, and some paint! The groove on the top tread is to fit over a metal lip on my tailgate (don't know if all trucks have ...

Oil pressure during starting
In the past, when I cranked the engine, the oil pressure would be zero at first, then rise up while still cranking, and I'd have good pressure during running. But I'm having starting problems now, and while I don't think oil pressure is necessarily the problem, the gauge doesn't show any pressure at...
