Re: steering box lube

To drain the box of oil if it has been filled with oil, take a lower bolt out of the housing end plate. Because these boxes end up over time leaking past the oil seal, owners end up installing a different lube other than the standard 90 gear oil. Owners use different products one being John Deer Cor...

Re: Brake Fluid DOT 3 or DOT 5

I use Pentosin Dot4 in my PW and have been very satisfied with its performance. I no longer experience WC leakage from corrosion in the cylinder and cylinders don't lock up if the vehicle sits for extended periods. It's not cheap, but it's good. All great information that will help other members make choices as which way they may want to go upgrading the engine in an M37. Thanks Jim and others!

Re: i need more power

I didn't realize a 225 slant six bellhousing bolted to a 318, and would allow the use of the Military NP420 by drilling one hole, good to know! I've thought about switching to an SM465, part availability is better and PTO's are easier to find. I need to find a PTO for the SM420 that's bi-directional...

Re: i need more power

It's a 1965 SBC 327, 300HP Corvette with double hump heads, 500CFM Edelbrock carb, matted to a Muncie SM420 4 speed heavy duty truck transmission. I guess unless you plan for more MPG in a conversion it becomes a hit and miss on mileage. Driving a Power-Wagon or M37 one can’t be too concerned about ...

Re: i need more power

If your concerned about MPG, going to a V8 is going to drop MPG and if you do go with a V8, go with a 2-barrel carb, a cam for fuel efficiency helps. Changing gearing to 4.30 R&P gears or a 5 speed OD trans is best, lower engine RPM. Ray's Helitool kits for the engine swap/hanging pedals are no ...

Re: Hot Brake

If the adjustment pin is easy to turn, that might be one of the issues and installing a cam kit may not solve it as it might be a worn support. If the rubber brake line has collapse it will hold pressure after the brake pedal is released. The MC/line pressure may be +/- 500 pounds which is more than...

Re: Hot Brake

Old rubber brake hose will do that over time, they tend to swell and hold pressure. Replace with a new armored brake hose.

Re: Drivetrain road noise

I don't understand all the drivetrain noise a lot of you are experiencing. The FFPW has the same drive train except those before late 56 when the spur gear was the standard transmission. My truck is an early 56 with what we call the "big" spur gear, or straight cut gears. The TC gears are ...

Re: Drivetrain road noise

Thanks Vaughn 2 for the information, gives me lots to think about. I thought about whether to rebuild my 230 or go to a different engine for quite awhile before deciding. The 230 parts are getting harder to find and what is available is getting limited, and that was my deciding factor to go with som...

Re: Drivetrain road noise

I noticed that things are a bit quieter when I have some random stuff piled in the passenger footwell. I suspect it is dampening the vibrations in that sheet metal. I keep meaning to try cutting up some heavy rubber mats to make floor mats to see how much of a difference that makes. You might try so...

Re: Lug Wrench Handle

There are two wrenches used; 41-H-1541 (bar socket wrench) and a torque wrench adjustable to 250 foot pounds. The bar is 3/4 dia., and tempered steel. You can buy one at the link below, 41-H-1541 interchanges with Budd 44201. The torque wrench is used to tighten the lug nuts to 200-225 foot pounds. ...

Re: Drivetrain road noise

Assuming fluid level in the units are where they should be, the only way to eliminate drivetrain noise is to freshen up the units to ensure all bearings, shaft needle bearing surfaces are good and within specs. Buying a used truck and not knowing how the truck was used or abused makes it difficult t...

Re: Repower M37

Take a look at page 352 of the PIF on the Dodge Power Wagon Site or the link below. It's my conversion installing a 327 SBC in my Power Wagon, it may give you some ideas.
