Re: Losing fuel prime
Fixed. The screw that mounts the choke tube bracket assembly to the carb body was stripped and allowing the bracket to move instead of closing the choke plate. Replaced with a larger screw and tightened the bracket. Choke plate moves now instead of the bracket. Starts like a charm. Little throttle a...

Re: Losing fuel prime
I noticed the choke doesn't fully close by pulling the knob because there is movement in the bracket on the carb. If I manually close the cable from the carb side the bracket slightly moves and the choke plate moves a bit more. The truck starts cold no problem if i do this. It appears the choke cabl...

Re: Losing fuel prime
pulled that non original bolt and used a probe to feel for the choke plate. It is there and it does move when the choke cable is pulled. I can't tell if it is fully closed and there is some slack in the cable if i pull the choke knob vs manually open the choke at the carb body. I assume the choke pl...

Re: Losing fuel prime
The choke appears to work just fine. Moves back and forth when pulled. Here is a pic of the carb and the screw i had to remove to add fuel. According to the manual i have this is called the "main vent tube".

Re: Losing fuel prime
ok. Bit more info to hopefully help me out here. I have tried every combo of throttle/choke and still no start without a prime after sitting for a couple of hours. So if i add a dribble of gas in the main vent tube it fires off no problem. I have fuel to the pump, fuel in the bowl of the carb but af...

Re: Losing fuel prime
I tried the starting procedure as suggested. Truck started fine a couple of times and now won't start at all. I have fuel in the carb, i have spark on the plugs but still no start. I am topping up the batteries but any other suggestions? Nothing else has changed. Thoughts?

Re: Losing fuel prime
Float bowl has fuel. Still need to throw a little down the air cleaner elbow. Fires right up after that.

Re: Losing fuel prime
So carb needs a rebuild or something specific to the carb is not working correctly?

Losing fuel prime
Hi All, I have an issue with my M37 losing prime when sitting. I have to dump fuel in the carb to get it to start and once it starts, it runs perfectly fine. It will restart easily if I shut it off and does this for a few minutes but if I leave it for more than 30 mins or so I need to prime it again...

Re: Stiff Steering
Stiff steering was resolved by the install of the correct size gasket/shim. The install of the lower steering gear cover without the seal meant too much preload on the steering shaft was causing it to be stiff. Added the gasket and took it for a ride. Not quite 1 finger steering but much much better.

Re: Stiff Steering
I picked up some felpro gasket sheet( 3/64"thickness) and made a gasket/shim. Worked perfect and getting the truck back together this weekend. Hopefully it solves the stiff steering.

Re: Stiff Steering
I was hoping they were just gaskets. I will pick up some different thicknesses and give that a try.

Re: Stiff Steering
Got it out. Had to remove a splash pan from below and then got them. Steering is very stiff and i'll be pulling the gear apart. Found a great post by sturmtyger380 to guide me through it. http://g741.org/PHPBB/viewtopic.php?t=9432 Pulled the steering gear apart and found that the there are no shims ...

Re: Stiff Steering
I removed the idler arm drag link and the steering wheel is still stiff to turn. Turning the knuckles/hubs by hand is very easy. That along with the sideplay on the steering arm shaft makes me think i have a problem with the box itself. So i started to pull the steering gear out to disassemble and r...

Re: Stiff Steering
I put the front on stands and checked the slop in the steering. Even with no weight on the wheels the steering is stiff. There is a little play in the steering linkage but seems minimal. I turn the wheel just an inch or so and the linkage starts to move. I do notice alot of side play in the steering...
