Re: New Member - Old Project

Your plan is a good one with respect to getting it running and safe, then driving it to learn about what you have and what you want. As for me, I'm more along the lines of what a friend once said years ago when taking about his Harley motorcycle and its speed; he told me, "When you're on a Harl...

Re: New Member - Old Project

Except for the spark plugs, cables, and cable clamp, the photo shows what appears to be an original installation.

Re: New Member - Old Project

Thanks for checking in and posting. Looks like you have a nice straight truck. It appears that you've kept it under cover. I totally get the life happens part. I'm mid way through a ground-up factory-spec restoration on mine after over 45 years of "life." It's a lot of fun. Short piece of ...

Re: New Noise

There was a lot of competing or background noise in the video. Is it possible to separate out or filter the sound?

Could be a worn camshaft, oil pump issue, valve lifter, distributor, generator or water pump bearing, etc, but go simple first.

What about the belts? Are they in good shape?

Re: New Noise

How about the clutch area? Try depressing the clutch pedal slightly while running to see if that makes a difference.

Re: Repower M37

As someone who is mid way through a ground-up restoration (here's hoping it doesn't end up grinding me up!) on mine that I bought in 1972 in high school, I've turned in to something of a purist--down to spending untold hours tracking down the smallest "correct" part that no one else will l...

Re: Repower M37

Got it. I don't have anyone specifically to recommend, but I think any decent independent shop should be able to to the work.

Re: Repower M37

Do you mean installing a completely different engine with associated components and accessories? Or do an original-type installation?

Re: Vacuum tubing behind dash

If I understand what your asking, it's the windshield wiper hose running from the metal line attached to the fuel pump. The line enters the firewall and crosses along the inside of the firewall (supported by clips attached to the firewall) and attaches to the windshield wiper hinge tube which goes t...

Transmission rattle

Newly rebuilt transmission with new input shaft. New clutch and pressure plate. On startup after assembly, a rattling sound was coming from the bell housing area. Slight pressure on the clutch pedal smoothed everything out. I suspected insufficient lubrication on the clutch throw out bearing sleeve,...

Re: Introduction

Hello Jim, I'm largely done with the mechanical phase of my frame up restoration, so I think I'm done with most of those mistakes! The recommendation to acquire the manuals is spot on. You can find them on line. I've used Portrayal Press for the hard copies which are very useful in the shop....

Re: Hard top rectangular window

Hello all,

I thought I'd repost the request. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm looking for the rectangular rear window frame. Glass not necessary.

Mine is rusted out along the bottom rail.

Thank you,

Re: 1953 M37 - Barn find 2023

Truck looks nice, straight, and largely rust-free. From the data plate, it appears to be a 1951. You did well. Congratulations.
