Re: Looking for screw supply for M37B1

The square washers are known as "Toothed Periphery Washers". A number of sizes are no longer in production. I did find this reference, but have not tried to order anything from them: https://www.wclco.com/lock-washers/toothed-lock-washers/dished-type-lock-washers/ At one point when I was s...

Re: M43 driver compartment locking door handles

VPW sells one. It does not match the original, but it does fit. Unfortunately, currently out of stock.

Re: Reverse gear

I assume you've already tried letting up on the clutch a bit while in neutral with the engine running then depressing it and trying it again? Sometimes mine won't go into reverse because the gear teeth are in the wrong alignment. Giving it a little bump as described lets it go right in. THe other th...

Re: Patching Bed

I could swear I saw a post on here at some point by someone who had figured out a way to match the bends in the bed metal to make pieces for patches. He was just using common tools and scraps of metal for the form. I just can't recall when or where I saw it, or who posted it.

Re: Partial 12v Conversion

I've used the stock instruments and senders by installing a 12v to 24v 30A (overkill, but makes it run cool) boost converter in series with the spider. One problem with using a 12 to 24V converter to run the gauges is that your voltmeter will read 24V all the time, even if your 12V battery is down ...

Re: Partial 12v Conversion

It doesn't sound to me as though it's a hybrid 12/24V system, just a poorly done 12V conversion. Two concerns I see: Do the ends of the wires on the 24V harness come out where you need them to to reach things on the small block Chevy engine As just me mentioned, some of the higher amperage circuits ...

Re: My 1962 Project 😵‍💫

I picked up the larger one today. If I can only keep the wife from hijacking it. The larger one definitely makes a better work platform. The smaller one is handy for a step into the back, or occasionally helping someone get up into the cab. I gave a ride to a Korean War vet who remembered driving t...

I'm also 5' 8" and have difficulty reaching much in the engine compartment. the 11.00 R16 Michelin XZLtires don't help that much either. I have two work platforms/step stool things I got from Harbor Freight. This one is 13" tall with a platform of approx 12"x15" and rides folded ...

Re: Colorado Prohibits Military Vehicles on Hwy

So what does Colorado do about trucks registered in other states which drive on CO roads? Aren't states required to recognize the registration of vehicles from other states?

Re: Colorado Prohibits Military Vehicles on Hwy

I'm curious why they specifically targeted military vehicles. I can see some restrictions around specialized vehicles (heavy enough to require a CDL, or tracked vehicles, or something highly unusual that is nothing like a typical passenger vehicle). However, this is just an antique pickup truck. If ...

Re: New Noise

Poor man's stethoscope: get a piece of old broom handle or a similar size metal bar. Put one end on the engine part in question, and the other end against your ear. Works well to isolate sounds from different parts of the engine.

Re: Winch question

Physical winch is the same. The mounting brackets may not be. There are 4 brackets. 2 large ones on the sides and 2 small ones on the front. Vintage Power Wagon sells the front brackets, the "winch to bumper brackets", as well as the frame extensions and other winch parts for the M37. I d...

Re: Electronic Ignition problem

I've heard it will also fry the coil in a points and condenser ignition system. Apparently, it gets too hot in there without the engine running.

I probably would have fried mine by now, but when the engine is off, I can hear the fuel pump running, so I'm reminded to shut off the ignition.
