Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

Alright, once the tailgate is on for good I’ll direct some attention to getting that center support fitting properly. Today’s job was taking a break from bodywork and instead, fixing the fresh air vent on the cab. It has always been kind of loose, and it turns out the reason for that is that the pas...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

Last of the tailgate pics About the center support for the tailgate: Mine sits a bit low and doesn’t seem to do much. Has it been flattened? Off the truck the part doesn’t look warped, but on the truck it just doesn’t seem to sit quite right. Does anyone have a picture of theirs they could share so ...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

And finally, today’s job was some work on the tailgate. What I was starting with was fairly straight, although there were cracks in all four corners, the hinges had seized, and the top right corner had a fairly significant bend, and a crack where the metal had folded. So, with some pipe clamps, some...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

A couple more pictures- The black paint is just to protect the fresh metal for the time being. We have been getting some pretty large temperature swings, and bare metal will flash rust if not covered. Once I’m done the welding I’ll be doing some sanding and smoothing so that the large imperfections ...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

Well, time for another update! I have been trying to make a push to finish up the bodywork and I am finally at a point where I’m seeing the end of the rust. I’ve just about finished welding up both rear fenders, with only the outer passenger side to do still. As most of this was cutting and patching...

Re: Timing after Elec. upgrade

Yes. You will have an easier time if you first pull the distributor too so you can look down the hole to see where the slot is pointing, then drop the oil pump just enough to rotate it one tooth. Then replace the distributor, matching it with the new orientation of the slot. If you don’t pull the di...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

Finally some update. I had the same problem with the toolbox. Seems to be a great place for humidity to accumulate and do its job. Had to replace almost its entire floor. Winter, at least in cold places like yours, it's the perfect time for making progress. Hope you jump in and update us soon. :-) ...

Re: Pintle Hitch

You're correct, it belongs inside the cross member. At least the fix is just nuts & bolts, better than something done with a torch & welder... Ok, thanks for the confirmation. 4 bolts, cotter pin, big nut! I can do that! With everything found out over the last 4 weeks I will suspect everyth...

I clued into it when I read the data plate, that the Canadian spec is in imperial quarts/gallons and not US.
So, 4 imperial quarts is roughly 4.8 US quarts.
Only slightly less than what the American trucks call for

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

And that brings us to where the truck is at today. I’m working on the sides of the bed and the inside and outside wheel arches which had some significant rust. I’ll show you soon how I’m tackling that. It won’t be a professional fix, but it will look pretty good once I’m finished I think. Here’s a s...

IMG_2023-11-13-020558.jpeg IMG_2023-11-13-024814.jpeg A couple pictures of building the new toolbox. I tried to keep it fairly simple, and did not add in the ribs that the old toolbox had on each end. I think being boxed in as it is it should be plenty rigid. And here’s a picture of the bed floor b...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

Since I was working in the cab and I had the sheet metal out of the way, I took a peek in the transmission. This is the T98 that came with the truck, and I’m surprised it looked as good as it did! IMG_2023-11-13-012549.jpeg Then I went back to working on the bed area of the truck. The toolbox floor ...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

The truck has come a fair ways as well. When I last left off on here it was a bare frame in the back. The rear axle was cleaned up, painted and put back. I did not touch the differential except to replace the front pinion seal which was a leaker. I tried being clever with a modern seal inside the ol...

Re: M37CDN "Gertrude"

Hi guys, been a while since I last posted anything about the truck, but I’m still here. Took about a year off working on it to finish my M38 and get it roadworthy, although I did find time here and there to do work on the M37 while I was waiting for parts etc for the Jeep. In any case, here’s a litt...
