Re: engine dies after 3 min
Ok I actually gained some ground today, lucky for me its been snowy and freezing. So its not the carb, but all great Intel from all of you thank you for your experience and expertise. I ran a jerry can straight to the carb like suggested earlier and she ran for 20 min straight. So its either that ne...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
Before going nuts, try running it from a Jerry can sitting on your fender with just a tube siphoning gas into your carb. What happens when you try that? -jim lee I'll have to try that tomorrow and see what happens. Do I just suck on on end of the hose from the jerry can to start the vac then plug i...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
sounds like the carb the canadian carter ball and ball part # e9-d1 looks identical to the american etw1. the only difference is the venture diameter, throttle plate diameter and jet orifices. 230ci vs 251ci = 21ci the dark green truck is acting the same way but I am able to keep her running with a...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
I checked that and its clear , plus I'm watching the clear filter at the carb end and the fuel is constantly going to the carb. I can't see any interruption of fuel. I did try the choke again just now and when it revs up to die I pull the choke all the way out and smash the gas peddle down and she s...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
I never thought about the carb being different. I did rebuild it with the etw1 kit, but that's the carb that was on it. It looks just like the etw1 carb for the m37, and it says ball and ball on it. I have not seen the CDN model carb , I didn't realize they used something other then the etw. The thi...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
I have a 1955 CDN M43 with the 251 in it. Shes been running great until one day it shut off while driving home from a parade. The engine starts up great, then heats up for about 2 or 3 min then it revs up high and shuts off. Then it starts right back up after 30 sec then only runs for about 30 sec. ...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
It was brought up twice that a different carb was installed and fixed the problem. That's why I kept focuse on the carb and took it apart so many times. While complying with everyone's suggestions of checking other systems. Thanks everyone for trying to help me out on this issue. I'll leave you guys...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
Is there some reason you refuse to believe the coil can be your problem? The coils on the M series vehicles are famous for this problem. If it were me I would at least run a diagnostic on it. OR, you could rebuild the carb again. I did check the coil, I'm sorry I thought I mentioned this. Th...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
I'm still beating my head against this truck. I'm going to the end of my rope hear. This is the fifth brake down and rebuilding and cleaning of this carb and yet its still not working. I did not put silicon on any of the gaskets. They are in good condition each time I take it apart so I re use them....

Re: engine dies after 3 min
Well I learned something new there, I didn't realize that would matter as dumb as that sounds now..lol. I thought starting fluid would always add some bang in there. So I took the carb apart today and checked the float again. No leaks and is at 5/64 from the top. Changed out the rubber tipped fuel s...

Re: engine dies after 3 min
I don't think this matters but I just found some oil spraying out on the fire wall, and down the block between the block and head. I know this sounds crazy but when I spray starter fluid in the carb while running it starts to kill the engine and drops to about 300 rpms or so.

Re: engine dies after 3 min
Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't done anything to the truck since I put on the electric fuel pump and regulator, but the truck was running fine after that conversion. I have noticed it runs good while warming up then shuts down after about 5 min. It starts right back up easy but then only runs ...

engine dies after 3 min
I have been working on this truck off and on for two months trying to figure this issue out, and I'm defeated. Please someone help. I have a 1955 dodge m43 ambulance CDN. I rebuilt everything except the engine because it only had 20,000 miles on her and ran great. I took it to a parade and she ran g...

Re: new 24v electric pump makes dash hand primer dump fuel
BTW, this is a Canadian 1955 M43. The vent line comes out of a T in the main line coming out of the back of the master cylinder, not the port in the top cover side. Why is this like this, and wouldn't fuel be forced into the MC, or brake fluid into the Mani Ford, or fuel line? Does it even have to b...
