Re: 12 vs 24 volt questions
I guess I’m another one in favor of going all 24 volt, although for powering accessories it’s easy enough to tap off of just 12 volts where need be. Most of my trailers both for on and off road have hydraulic “surge” brakes and they seem to be simple and dependable. As far as lights go, you can find...

Re: M37 Transmission Discovery
Yup, that sure looks like it. Has anyone seen these shear before? Looks like it could be time to dive into that transmission. And as was said before, you might be able to learn a bit more by popping the top off the box. Ultimately they are pretty straightforward to remove and replace. Best of luck w...

Re: M37 Transmission Discovery
Pin 7373633 is only 0.185 x 0.525 long, looks bigger than that to me. But could it e 7373634 (plunger reverse shifter shaft)? How does your shifter feel going into reverse gate? Can you measure the diameter? It looks like 0.375 to me but hard to say. There aren’t many things in those gear boxes that...

Hi Alan, Looks like that’s a Bendix booster- any idea what the original application was? Also, who carries rebuild kits for them and are they nos or new? I’ve heard some people having problems with nos booster kits, I guess because the diaphragms don’t always age well. Supposedly the xm708 had a boo...

Re: Thickness of the cowl sheet metal?
Isn’t there a horizontal seam just below that, that a guy could put a micrometer on? Seems to me that the metal must have been stretched thinner when those panels were originally formed and that “corner” made because it seems like they often like to rust through in that area. In some cases it seems ...

I restore very old vehicles for a living (pre war Rolls Royce and Bentley)
The word in the auto restoration business is: it is really easy to make a small fortune restoring antique automobiles, all you need to do is start with a large fortune!
Cheers!

Re: Repacking front wheel bearings?
Hi Charles, Just to be clear, are you talking about nut 7348982? And, if I understand you correctly, are you putting that in a 6 jaw chuck and spinning it to resurface (true) well enough to accept a speedi-sleeve? And if so do you typically take it down to a given dimension such that you use the sam...

Hi Gary, Are you talking about the ugly defroster unit that comes with the heater kit? If so, do you know of anyone that might have one available for sale? I’m looking for that and the diverter “valve” to complete a heater kit for one of my trucks. 30 Inches of snow can be formidable for a M37, even...

Re: Beechwood Canvas Works new set of M37 seat covers
After making tops and seat covers for hmvs for many, many years, I can say that sunbrella makes a reasonable bikini type top, but is no where near as abrasion resistant as mil-spec canvas. Yes it is uv resistant and won’t shrink the way cotton canvas does. There is a nice Naugahyde that has a grain ...

Re: Oil Filtration:Chaos and Answers
Hi Rick! How’s your winter been?
I’m curious about your set up. Is it basically plumbed as the original filter was?
What do you learn from your (oil pressure?) gage you have attached to it?
The voltage regulator bracket looks kinda empty, does that mean you are running an alternator?
Cheers! Doug

Re: Oil Filtration:Chaos and Answers
Sounds like Chris was in the planning stage with this 5 1/2 years ago, it would be interesting to know if he went ahead with the spin on conversion and what his experiences were. Also, I know that this has been discussed before and a number of other guys have done this. It would be interesting to he...

Re: M37 Bikini top
Yup too bad about that. Where was he located? Was it just a wheel business or metal fab shop that made wheels? The local metal fabrication shop makes wheels but they are labor intensive and get pretty pricey fast. But I guess that happens when you try to re-invent the wheel. Did you keep the plans/p...
