If so you have a flex plate inplace of the flywheel, inwhich case the ring gear is welded to the plate. If in fact you do have the original flywheel you simply cut the old gear off . Heat up the new gea...

Mine served with the USFS than was sent to South Saulty volunteer FD in Alabama. I called and spoke with the Chief had a long conversation about the truck. It too had the bed removed, a ton of switches added to the dash, partial 12volt conversion. Which made the truck hard to start. It served as a b...

pulley

Front crankshaft pulleys are secured in two manners that I know of. 1) Woodruff key. 2) Blind spline. These engines use the woodruff key. It is possible that the key may have sheared but I would bet that the camshaft gear key is the one failed and not the crank. The camshaft key is a lot smaller tha...

one other thing that I have seen before is a broke crankshaft usually ringht at the end of a main jurnel. You can check this by locking the flywheel with a pry bar and using a socket wrench on the front crankshaft bolt try to rotate back and forth. You you not be able to do so. If you are able to mo...

sledge hammer

I am quite surpprised that no one has mentioned possible jump timing. A worn distributer drive gear or cam gear could result in mistimed engine which could show up as a knocking, skipping, dieseling or other noise. Also check your distributer cap for cracking or tracking. Tracking is a build up of c...

valve lapping

For a propperly seated valve you will need to hand lap irreguardless of wether three angle or single. Each valve should be lapped to its matching seat. This will remove any small high spots or grinding grooves left over from the stones. Also the lapping compond must be cleaned from both valve and se...

Double clutching and down shifting

My first question is at what speed are you down shifting from third to second? The way I do is to first apply brake to slow truck wheel speed than ingage clutch shift from third to neautral release clutch give some throttle engage clutch shift to second release clutch You should notice an increase d...
