Winch Conversion

How difficult is it to convert a non-winch truck to a winch truck? Is it as straight forward as finding the necessary components and bolting them up?

Seems like you would need the winch, driveshaft, winch bumpers, bumper extensions, and PTO

Am I oversimplifying this? Anything I am missing?

WTB: Restored M37

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I'm putting some feelers out there to see if anyone would consider selling their M37. I am looking for one that is restored or in excellent condition, preferably with a winch. If you have or know of anything, give me a shout!

Re: Tie Rod/Knuckle Issue

I'm reviving an old thread here as I'm running into the same issue. It's tough to torque that castle nut down when the tie rod bolt just spins. Any suggestions? Also, am I reading the TM correctly that it should be tightened to 150 ft lbs, even with that spring in there?

Re: Differential Removal

I completely forgot to take any pictures on the rear axle, so I snapped a few of the front. The front differential install went very smoothly as well. I again cleaned the mating surface and added a solid bead of anaerobic gasket maker, as well as removed and re-sealed all the studs. Vintage Power Wa...

Re: Front Disc Brake Kit Installation

06boblee - Agree, who knows what the condition of these brake lines is so I'll likely replace them. Same for the master cylinder, replaced with a dual circuit. NAM VET - I couldn't have gotten to this point without this forum, so I'm trying to "pay it forward" as much as I can. Hopefully s...

Front Disc Brake Kit Installation

I’m starting a new thread here for the installation of my brake disc kit from M Series Rebuild (front axle only). This process would probably be a breeze for most people on this board, but I’ll add some pictures of my process in case it helps other newbies at some point in the future. First step was...

Re: 1954 M37 rebuild thread

Looks good. Are the thermal diffusers ties to anything specific or do they just dissipate engine heat from under the hood?

Re: Differential Removal

I picked up my rebuilt differentials and disc brake kit from M Series rebuild this week. Today I was able to get the rear differential installed. Per Charles’s advice, I used Permatex anaerobic gasket maker in lieu of an NOS gasket. It wasn’t too hard to get it back up in there, again using my harbo...

Re: Differential Removal

Yikes - so far mine has appeared to be pretty well maintained. It was Wyoming/Colorado truck and garaged most of its life.

Another dumb question - can I re-use the outer bearing cones on the front axle? I'd like to not pay $60/each for new ones if I don't need to.

Re: Differential Removal

Thanks for the help guys. Another dumb question: is there any hardware that I should NOT re-use? I was planning on reusing everything but please someone let me know if that is a bad idea.

Re: Differential Removal

Sounds like Charles T is close to finishing regearing my differentials and I'll soon face the challenge of putting everything back together. As I think about preparing parts for reassembly, I have the following questions: - I assume that I should de-grease and de-grime all the parts, nuts, and bolts...
