has anyone tried the new water pumps....are they U.S. made? reliable? they are supposed to have sealed roller bearings so no grease fitting.......

Well guys...was hoping to keep my 53 as original as possible but I need to have the truck capable to of towing a M151 MUTT (jeep) on a small 2 axle trailer. I know I will need more power to do this as well as better brakes and axles upgraded for better high end speed......All of which means $$$$$......

Rod bolt question

How many foot pounds to tighten rod bolts? Have a guy in the club who had engine block machined...new parts put in along with new bearings for rods/mains/cam....was not driven much after rebuild....had slight knock sound so he was told check rod bolts for proper torque....bolts seemed to be loose......

they agreed no charges beyond magna flux.....still with the parts ordered some of which can be used in another block (I hope) it was $628 for a block that goes to the scrap yard......a replacement has been found for $100 but now we start all over again.......

yep.....I plan on a fight with them about the price........I have access to another block.....next question is can another shop switch out any of the new parts if needed that were installed in the junk block? things like cam bearings, valve guides????

need some opinions........Sent my 230 block to a machine shop to have it cleaned and checked.....it was magnafluxed and cleaned and found to need some work.....valve guides and some seats done, bored 20 over. other work. total 1200$ in parts and labor. now I get a call when they decked it and pressu...

Speed Question

was in a friends m37 and at 50mph I thought the engine was gunna blow....the rpms were high......I know the gearing keeps top end speed down....how can I either increase speed or keep the rpms down in 4th at 45-50 mph......since most of my driving will be on concrete roads I'd like to maintain 50mph...

engine for towing with m37

Have a 53 M37....looking to find a larger engine that still is a flathead but has the power to tow a M151 on a small trailer.......heard of the 251 and 265 but how complicated is it to put in and will they have the power needed..? I would prefer to keep the original GI look of the flatheads......

Oil Cooler

have a vet's club in chgo land area......couple of our 230 cid have had over heating problems.......have three engines going through rebuild.....complete clean out....To keep temp's down we are looking into a oil cooler.....My question is has anyone put one on the 230 cid and how well did it work......
