Re: Anyone seen my old M37?

I miss her terribly, but the $27K I got for the old girl was very useful. Another is coming together with a 4-53N this time. Sorry, pix are buried in storage right now. DG Yeah, $27K would ease the pain a bit - and, I also don't feel bad about missing it! I'd love to see pictures of either build, i...

Re: Anyone seen my old M37?

You sold your old truck? I was going to message you asking how she was after 39 years! Do you happen to have pictures of your 3-53/3053 installation? We talked back in '98-'00 about me building a near-duplicate, but life got in the way a long while.

Re: Do B1's Rust More than Earlier Trucks?

My experience was the same, I have seen farm trucks where the older 'straight' M37 'parts truck' ended up in better shape than the B1 truck they were using. I'm not sure if it's a different metal, a different paint/primer, or what, but they rust!

I'd use it on older gearboxes, for sure, not sure about a modern engine though!

Re: To Oil or Not To Oil: T245 Connecting Rod Bushings

IIRC, they are balanced by grinding the pistons and crankshaft counterweights. I have old hot rodding books that discuss the 230 and 'big block' sixes, and the part they thought most important was milling the head for extra compression and port-matching the manifolds to the block for better airflow....

I'm assuming these are owned outright and not on loan from gsa.gov? This has been a problem for many many RFDs in the past!

Re: parts wanted

I'm looking for a set of leaf springs for a m37b1. I bought a fixer upper and it is listing to starboard.... I'd like a complete set that still sits correctly. I can also use one of the two glass windshields in the front windshield assembly, and both windows for the doors. I'd also be interested in...

SGN is still useful to some extent, there are a LOT of older and rural people that aren't on the 'net yet.

IIRC, Industrial Products Company a/k/a IPCO was the first company to offer these back in the 80s. They were likely made by Richmond under contract. I think IPCO also originated the drop-in "Lock-Right" type lockers. There were ads in Army Motors and Supply Line 25+ years ago.

I don't remember the name but I think they were in or near San Bernardino. They used adapters, likely from Wil-Cap, to tie the SD-33 to the original bellhousing and transmission.

#1, the SD-33 was popular for swaps back in the 70s, as was the SD-22 - which was optional in Datsun pickup trucks. #2, the SD-33 was swapped into surplus M37 in a production manner by a surplus dealer in California back in the 70s or 80s. They had fiberglass flip-forward hoods. The same company con...

3-53N backed by a Spicer 3053 works rather well, if PoW/DG was around he could tell you all about it.

42" is actually a little deep. 42" was OK in the early trucks with the enclosed air filters but on the later trucks the fan will fill the air filter up with water in about 30" of water.
The TM actually gives pretty thorough instructions on fording though.

Cx-2 is best, the Cx-4 has the anti-wear additives taken out like the S series due to late model diesels having catalytic converters. The -2 oils are for Detroits and such, non-emissions, high detergent high dispersant high anti-wear additive.
