1951 M37 for sale in Dayton, Oregon

Well through a certain turn of events I have moved into a smaller house and a smaller garage. I now own instead of rent so it was a step up overall but I am not going to be able to work on my M for the next couple of years. What I have is a 1951 M37 body and frame. No axles no, engine or any other d...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

If diesel fuel was as expensive here as it is there I would believe you would see a damn riot. There are a lot of farmers around here that would not be happy paying those prices to keep their tractors going let alone their pickups. Where I am it's not as good as a price as it is in the midwest near ...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Well specifically for my build I am using the 4BT because well 1- I am a huge fan of Cummins Diesels, 2-Out of all of the diesel options for the M37 I don't see how anyone would go any other way. 3-When the SHTF I know I can run any of my Cummins engines on the engine oil straight out of the oil pan...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Why is the 4bt such a popular repower? 4bt weight 745 - 782 pounds 4bt torque 265 foot-pounds vs bb chevy weight 520 - 570 pounds bb chevy torque 500 - 600 foot-pounds It seems to me that the bb chevy might save a couple hundred pounds and give twice the torque. Well for several reasons. To begin w...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Hi Jeff, I never found any original markings on that truck-whoever painted it did an unusually good job of prep it seems. I don't recall seeing anything but the typical green paint under the yellow, but you'll know for sure when you sand on the cab and doors. Also, it didn't have any of the usual M...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Jeff, Please explain it to your wife this way. It is semi-official Marine Corps policy "to go shopping whenever we were around another branches service gear" so actually you are still following SOP. Just remember to put a handle on the front of the hood, paper clips on the front bumper, c...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Ted, So then for clarifications purposes do you know if the truck was originally an army truck? Or what branch it came from? My wife keeps giving me a hard time because I am a Marine and I thought that I now own 2 Army trucks. It would be nice to hear that it was a Marine Corps truck. Either way jus...

Re: Upright External Air filter

Well I have searched and searched and found nothing that I want so I have come to the conclusion that I am just going to make my own. I am planning on finding an air filter that will work and building the housing around it.

Pictures to come once it begins.

Re: Bed Assembly Question

Adding another question to this thread. Does someone repop the doughnuts that the bed sits on. The round ones that go between the frame and the bed supports?

Thanks
Jeff

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

So here are some more pictures. Spent the morning welding up a trailer that I have need to finish for a while so I didn't do anything on the M yet. However I did wander around the junk yard in search of some axles. No luck yet. It seems whenever you need something it's never there, but as soon as yo...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Not a terribly big deal, who/where did you find or purchase the truck? The winch may have had some issues as well, cost cutting maybe? Glad you found your vin #, I just guessing, did you add it to the registry or was it already there? The registry said that the truck was in Lyons,OR. I purchased it...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Well i found the number you were talking about, 80009488. Funny enough they were obviously hand stamped because the last 2 8's are upside down. Also according to the registry my truck originally had a winch.

Frame Serial number

I found my truck in the registry and it is not showing an owner under it that I am finding. However I am the owner now and curious how to change it. Also interesting that my truck has no sign of it now but was originally a winch model. Also other than what I found on the registry is there any more i...

Upright External Air filter

I don't know where I saw it but I saw an M with an upright air filter housing mounting on the passenger rear corner of the fender. With the hat on top so it pulls air from underneath and can't get water into it. Either way I have done a decent amount of google searching and cannot find what I'm look...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower

Well I purchased the truck in pieces so I am assuming there is no way of getting the exact original state. I can assume though that since it said Army on the side that it isn't a Marine truck. I was only saying that because I now own 2 Army trucks and am myself a Marine. The intent for the drivetrai...
